Overview

This position will assist the Head of Tax in managing the tax provision and compliance functions including reviewing quarterly tax provisions, monitoring cash taxes and managing global outsourced engagements for the global provision and worldwide income tax compliance. This position will also need a general knowledge of foreign income tax concepts, theories, and principles in order to interact and provide provision and compliance support to both the business locations and the outsourced providers. This position must be able to apply an understanding of the industry to improve effectiveness, provide guidance, and influence processes and policies for the tax discipline as well as identify and resolve technical, operational, and organizational problems that impact effectiveness.

This position is an individual contributor role. The role reports directly to the Head of Tax and routinely interacts with Regional Business and Finance Leads, Accounting, FP&A, Audit, Legal, Outside Advisors, and Information Technology.

Responsibilities
  • Reviews and signs off on interim and annual income tax provisions, deferred tax reconciliations, and tax disclosures (FIN 48/ASC 740)
  • Is accountable for the performance and results of the provision team and defending results to Management
  • Perform quarterly forecasting, cash tax projections, and report findings to management.
  • Identifies and resolves a range of complex tax technical and operational problems
  • Research tax laws to identify risks and planning opportunities.
  • Applies understanding of the industry to the tax function to achieve financial and operational objectives
  • Research and advise on ASC 740 rules with a practical approach to the business unit’s operations.
  • Act as the primary liaison with external auditors to defend tax reporting positions.
  • Provide appropriate US tax planning and tax advice to reduce tax expense and cash taxes including working with project teams and Finance to ensure proper implementation and follow through with compliance.
  • Keep internal departments up to date with tax reporting changes, and their impact on CB&I.
  • Manage, review and assist with preparation of the consolidated US Federal and State income tax returns.
  • Track and control the filing of the US and State extensions along with the annual and estimated tax payments.
  • Manage US Federal and State income tax correspondence, tax audits, tax appeals with the help of outside consultants.
  • Review/assist with tax procedures and processes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field.
  • CPA Certification preferred.
  • Typically, 15+ years of corporate tax experience, preferably in a multinational organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing and coordinating relationships with external consultants and tax authorities.
  • Extensive experience leading and managing complex tax transactions.
  • Exposure to working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas and jurisdictions.
  • Previous experience in the energy, construction, or infrastructure sectors preferred.
  • Experience working in ERP platforms (e.g., JD Edwards, Oracle EBS) and consolidation and reporting solutions (e.g., Hyperion, Hubble).
  • Experience running reports and working with OneSource Tax Provision software.

  • Ability to effectively research and analyze tax issues to support compliance and decision‑making.
