Job description

Most Tax Manager opportunities mean a bigger book, more returns to review, and more deadlines to manage. This one gives you a bigger seat at the table.

A growing public accounting and advisory firm is looking to add a Tax Manager to its team. This is an opportunity for someone who's already proven they can run complex tax engagements and is ready for more ownership across clients, people, and the broader practice.

You'll lead sophisticated tax engagements, own key client relationships, develop planning strategies, and work directly with business owners and individuals on decisions that go well beyond annual compliance.

This isn't about becoming better at managing the tax cycle. It's about becoming the advisor clients call before they make the decision.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead complex tax engagements across individuals, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, fiduciaries, nonprofits, and other entities
  • Own key client relationships and serve as the primary resource for tax planning, consulting, and complex technical matters
  • Identify planning opportunities and develop strategies that create meaningful value beyond the return
  • Advise business owners on entity structure, growth, transactions, and other decisions with significant tax implications
  • Research complex tax issues and turn technical conclusions into practical recommendations
  • Manage engagement quality, workflow, deadlines, and client delivery
  • Review complex returns and provide technical direction to Seniors and Staff
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the professionals working underneath you
  • Work directly with firm leadership on complex client matters and planning opportunities
  • Identify opportunities to deepen relationships and expand the services provided to existing clients
  • Build exposure to specialized areas including financial services, international tax, cross-border matters, and transaction advisory

What you'll bring:

  • 5+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA, EA, or equivalent professional credential
  • Strong experience across complex individual and business taxation
  • Proven ability to lead engagements and manage client relationships
  • Strong technical foundation across tax compliance, planning, research, and consulting
  • Confidence working directly with business owners and key decision-makers
  • Experience developing and mentoring Seniors and Staff
  • Ability to spot opportunities beyond the immediate compliance need
  • Experience with CCH or similar tax platforms is valuable
  • Exposure to financial services, international tax, transactions, or closely held businesses is a plus

Why this one is worth a conversation:

At a lot of firms, making Manager means you're trusted with more work.

Here, it means being trusted with more of the relationship.

You'll own clients, advise on decisions before they're made, develop the people around you, and have a bigger voice in where the relationship—and the practice—goes next.

If you've already proven you can run the work and you're ready to build beyond it, I'd be happy to share more confidentially.
