Tax Manager | Private Client & Business Tax | Cleveland–Akron
Take Your Tax Career Beyond Traditional Public Accounting
An established Northeast Ohio RIA and private wealth management firm is expanding its tax practice and seeking an experienced Tax Manager to play a key role in its continued growth.
This is an opportunity for a CPA who wants to remain close to sophisticated tax work and client relationships while working in an integrated environment alongside financial planning and investment management professionals.
You’ll step into an established client environment, provide tax planning and advisory services to privately held businesses and their owners, mentor tax professionals, and help shape the continued development of the firm’s tax practice.
Unlike many traditional public accounting roles, there is no expectation to build your own book of business.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- Established client base and tax workload — focus on serving and advising clients rather than building a practice from scratch.
- Advisory-focused role — combine tax compliance with proactive tax planning and consulting.
- Integrated wealth management environment — collaborate directly with financial planning and investment professionals.
- Leadership opportunity — mentor and develop tax professionals while helping strengthen the firm’s tax capabilities.
- Hybrid flexibility — work from the firm’s Northeast Ohio locations with flexible office arrangements.
- More sustainable workload — peak tax-season hours are expected to remain at approximately 55 hours per week or less.
- Lucrative compensation and bonus plan.
- Potential equity opportunity for the right individual interested in long‑term ownership.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee tax planning, compliance, and advisory services for clients.
- Serve as a trusted tax advisor to privately held businesses, business owners, and individuals.
- Develop proactive tax strategies designed to manage tax liabilities and support clients’ broader financial objectives.
- Review complex individual, partnership, S corporation, trust, gift, federal, state, and local tax matters.
- Manage tax engagements and maintain high standards for technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and client service.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop tax managers and staff while providing technical guidance and performance feedback.
- Collaborate with financial planning and investment management professionals to deliver coordinated client solutions.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and communicate relevant implications to clients and internal professionals.
- Help solidify the development of the tax group’s services.
What We’re Looking For
- Active CPA license.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of tax experience within a CPA firm, financial services organization, or comparable professional tax environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of individual and business taxation, including partnerships, S corporations, trusts, gifts, and federal, state, and local taxation.
- Experience managing tax engagements and client relationships.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or developing tax professionals.
- Strong client‑facing, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Sound professional judgment and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a client‑service environment.
Additional Experience That Would Be Valuable
Experience serving privately held businesses and their owners, tax planning and consulting beyond compliance, working alongside financial planning or wealth management professionals, and Thomson Reuters UltraTax CS and Practice CS are all valuable but not required.
The Opportunity
For an experienced public accounting tax professional considering what comes next, this role provides an alternative to simply moving to another traditional CPA firm.
You’ll have the opportunity to remain technically engaged, work directly with clients, participate in the development of a growing tax practice, and collaborate with professionals across tax, financial planning, and investment management.
For the right individual with long‑term leadership ambitions, the firm is also open to discussing a potential path to equity participation.
