Job summary

Holthouse Carlin & Van Trigt LLP is seeking an intern for its Tax service line to gain hands-on experience while supporting the preparation of federal and multi-state returns. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement and requires up to 20 hours per week from mid‑January through mid‑April, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and Beta Alpha Psi membership.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a bachelor’s degree (or master’s) in accounting or taxation, and will develop both technical and communication skills

Qualifications

  • On track to completing a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a master’s degree in accounting or taxation between May 2027 – June 2028.
  • Available to work 20 hours a week from Mid-January through Mid-April.
  • Minimum overall and accounting GPAs of 3.0.
  • Active membership in Beta Alpha Psi or another campus accounting organization.
  • Strong technical aptitude and demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exhibit leadership skills that demonstrate strong judgement, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Able to learn in a fast paced environment and receptive to feedback and coaching.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities, and take initiative on projects.
  • High attention to detail.
  • A positive attitude and is a team player mentality with a can-do spirit.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare federal and multi-state income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts and its related income tax work papers.
  • Complete a variety of projects within engagement timeline and budget guidelines.
  • Learn and effectively utilize firm tax preparation software to continually learn, share knowledge with team members, and enhance the quality of service to clients.
  • Perform self-review of work.
  • Perform tax technical research assigned by supervisors.
  • Develop strong relationships with firm professionals.
  • Participate in firm training and activities.
  • Work with your buddy and performance manager on professional development of both technical and soft skills.

Hybrid Work

HCVT currently offers a hybrid work model that allows eligible employees to work both remotely and in the office, based on business needs and team coordination. This salary range is specific to the state(s) listed and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill set and education; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable salary estimate for this position is $38.00 per hour and it is eligible for a one-time program completion bonus.
