Job description

Position Overview

Rudler is a full-service certified public accounting firm serving individuals and businesses throughout the greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region.

Our Tax Internship provides students with a hands-on introduction to public accounting and the opportunity to experience what it's really like to work in a professional tax environment. Interns work alongside experienced CPAs and contribute to real client engagements, gaining practical experience that goes beyond the classroom.

Rather than simply shadowing professionals, our interns play an active role in the tax preparation process while receiving training, guidance, and mentorship from experienced members of our team.

Responsibilities
  • Load and organize client documents into our tax software, ensuring accuracy and completeness of source data prior to return preparation.
  • Prepare individual income tax returns (Form 1040), including schedules for common situations such as wages, interest, dividends, capital gains, and self-employment income.
  • Prepare state and local income tax returns in coordination with the related federal return.
  • Prepare estimated tax vouchers and quarterly payment calculations for individual clients.
  • Prepare extension requests
  • Assist with administrative tasks and duties as needed
Qualifications
Required
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
  • Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors are all welcomed to apply.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet firm deadlines during a high-volume season.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Preferred
  • Completion of prior accounting coursework – specifically taxation.
  • Curiosity about the CPA exam pathway
What You Will Gain
  • Hands-on experience with professional tax software and the technology and workflow systems used in public accounting.
  • Exposure to a variety of real-world tax situations, giving you an opportunity to apply what you've learned in the classroom to actual client work.
  • Training and mentorship from experienced tax professionals who are invested in developing the next generation of accounting professionals.
  • A better understanding of public accounting and what a career in the profession can look like after graduation.
  • The opportunity to build relationships with experienced professionals.
  • Potential for an extended internship or full-time opportunity based on performance, interest, and business needs.
Details

This is a seasonal, paid, part-time internship aligned with the individual income tax filing season.

We understand that our interns are students first. Interns typically work approximately 20–24 hours per week, allowing them to gain meaningful professional experience while continuing to prioritize their college coursework. We offer flexibility around class schedules, exams, and other academic commitments.

Specific internship dates and schedules will be discussed during the interview process.

Strong-performing interns may have the opportunity to extend their internship beyond the tax busy season, providing additional experience and continued exposure to the firm. Extended internship opportunities are not guaranteed and are based on the firm's staffing needs, the volume and type of work available after busy season, and the intern's performance and interest in continuing with Rudler.
