Position Summary:

The Tax Compliance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate filings, managing tax data, responding to audits or inquiries, and maintaining compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, file, and remit monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns across multiple states and local jurisdictions.
  • Reconcile tax reports and general ledger accounts related to tax liabilities.
  • Research and stay current on sales tax law changes, rates, exemptions, and nexus requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation for tax filings, certificates, and audit support.
  • Manage and respond to sales tax notices and audit inquiries from state and local authorities.
  • Ensure proper tax treatment of sales transactions, including exemption certificate validation and taxability decisions.
  • Work closely with internal departments (sales, accounting, legal, etc.) to ensure accurate tax setup and compliance processes.
  • Monthly reconciliation of sales tax liabilities to general ledger
  • Maintain exemption certificates
  • Maintain state registrations (w/ Secretary of State and Revenue Departments)
  • Process personal property returns
  • Daily review of Avalara to updated invoices
  • Review customers in ERP for accuracy

Required Skills/Abilities

  • 3 to 5 years of Sales/Use Tax Compliance experience
  • Proficient in Excel and Word
  • Strong communication skills
  • Understanding of General Ledger Accounts
  • Basic Accounting Knowledge
  • Ability to work in time sensitive environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail

Education and Experience

  • High school degree required, Bachelors degree in related field or equivalent preferred.

Work Environment

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
