Job summary

Virginia Tax seeks multiple Tax Examiners to ensure compliance with Virginia tax laws by examining state individual income tax returns. You will review both state and federal information to determine liabilities and explain results to taxpayers.

The role requires strong communication, computer skills, and the ability to prioritize work in a team setting. Training is provided, with a hybrid telework option after onboarding and a Richmond Central Office location.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of federal and Virginia individual income tax laws and forms.
• Experience preparing, reviewing, or examining individual income tax returns at state or federal level.
• Proficient with electronic records, email, and spreadsheets to track work.

Responsibilities

• Analyze Virginia state individual income tax returns for accuracy and compliance with state tax laws.
• Determine taxpayer liability through audit programs based on federal and state tax information.
• Communicate findings to taxpayers and educate on filing procedures and regulations.
• Prepare and submit reports accurately and timely.
• Manage caseload to maintain high customer service levels.
• May perform other duties as assigned.
