The Vermont Department of Taxes Compliance Division in Montpelier is seeking a Tax Auditor I to review taxpayer records, perform audits, and prepare assessments while communicating findings to taxpayers. This mission supports accurate administration of Vermont tax laws in a collaborative, public service environment.

Qualified candidates will have an Associate’s degree in accounting or related experience, plus knowledge of taxation or auditing.

• Associate’s degree or 1+ years tax examination or accounting experience.
• Experience in tax examination, accounting, or financial operations.
• Education or training in taxation, accounting or auditing.
• Government audit experience preferred.
• Must pass background investigation and fingerprinting for access to federal tax information.
