Job summary

Confidential Employer in San Diego, CA, is seeking a tax attorney with 2+ years of experience to join our boutique practice serving business owners, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth individuals.

You will represent clients before IRS and state authorities, handle audits, controversy matters, and advisory work on planning and transactional matters, with mentoring from senior attorneys.

We offer a hybrid schedule, relocation assistance, performance bonuses, and a clear path for advancement.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 2+ years of tax law experience in a law firm or similar environment.
  • Experience handling federal and/or state tax controversy matters.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Experience representing clients before the IRS or state taxing authorities is preferred.
  • California Bar admission is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Represent clients before the IRS and California taxing authorities.
  • Handle federal and state tax audits, examinations, appeals, and administrative proceedings.
  • Assist with tax controversy matters including collections, Offers in Compromise, installment agreements, and Collection Due Process hearings.
  • Support tax litigation matters, including U.S. Tax Court proceedings.
  • Advise clients on tax planning, business structuring, entity formation, and transactional matters.
  • Research complex federal and state tax issues and prepare legal memoranda.
  • Draft correspondence, legal pleadings, settlement proposals, and client communications.
  • Collaborate closely with senior attorneys while gradually managing your own matters.
  • Develop trusted relationships with sophisticated business and individual clients.
  • Participate in continuing legal education and ongoing professional development.

Pay: $125,000.00 - $190,000.00 per year
