Job summary

KPMG LLP is seeking a Tax Associate to join our State & Local Tax practice in California. The role focuses on transaction-related SALT matters for buyers and sellers, with opportunities to advise on M&A implications and to grow skills in tax research and digital tools.

Responsibilities include due diligence, drafting analyses, and building capabilities with AI, Alteryx, Power BI, and MS Office across client engagements. This is a rolling, on-site opportunity at our California offices.

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing and have obtained by the start date or have completed the following degrees/majors: a JD or equivalent program from an accredited college or university.
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science or data and analytics preferred.
• Strong tax research skills.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering transaction-related tax due diligence and acquisition structuring services to buyers and sellers.
• Advise private equity and commercial clients on transaction-related SALT matters as they pertain to mergers and acquisitions (M&A).
• Identify and estimate SALT exposures related to income tax and indirect taxes; identify opportunities related to acquisition or disposition structuring steps.
• Research tax laws and form positions for the transaction; stay current on SALT regulatory developments.
• Draft due diligence reports and memorandums addressing risk areas and application of law to facts.
