Foster McKay is seeking a detail-oriented Tax Accountant to join its collaborative accounting and tax team in New Jersey. This role focuses on hands-on experience across sales & use tax, property tax, business licensing, and state and local tax compliance within a multi-entity, multi-jurisdictional environment.

The Tax Accountant will manage key compliance activities for U.S. entities, partnering with internal teams and third‑party providers to ensure accurate and timely filings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in sales & use tax, property tax, business licensing, or related tax/accounting function.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, PivotTables, advanced formulas).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, with solid organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage registration and renewal of sales tax permits and licenses across jurisdictions.
  • Prepare, file, and coordinate property tax filings for multiple entities and locations.
  • Maintain accurate property information for company locations and track licenses.
  • Open and close property tax accounts as locations change or expand to ensure compliance.
  • Assist with property tax and sales & use tax audits, gathering data and documentation.
  • Research and resolve federal, state, and local tax notices and compliance issues.
  • Coordinate with third‑party tax providers to gather, upload, review, and reconcile filings.
  • Obtain, renew, distribute, and track business licenses and certificates across jurisdictions.
  • Monitor licensing deadlines and maintain compliance across locations.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Tax Accountant to join a collaborative accounting and tax team. This is a great opportunity for an accounting professional looking to build hands‑on experience across sales & use tax, property tax, business licensing, and state and local tax compliance within a multi-entity, multi-jurisdictional environment. The Tax Accountant will be responsible for managing key compliance activities across U.S. entities and jurisdictions while partnering with internal teams and third‑party providers to ensure accurate and timely filings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the registration and renewal of sales tax permits and licenses across applicable jurisdictions.
  • Prepare, file, and coordinate payment of property tax filings for multiple entities and locations.
  • Maintain accurate and current property information for company locations.
  • Open and close property tax accounts as locations are added, changed, or closed to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Assist with property tax and sales & use tax audits, including gathering data and preparing supporting documentation.
  • Research and resolve federal, state, and local tax notices and compliance issues.
  • Partner with third‑party tax providers to gather, upload, review, and reconcile sales and use tax data and filings.
  • Obtain, renew, distribute, and track business licenses and certificates across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Monitor licensing deadlines and requirements to ensure all locations remain compliant.
  • Obtain and maintain resale and tax exemption certificates for qualifying entities.
  • Assist with additional state and local tax projects and initiatives as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in sales & use tax, property tax, business licensing, or a related tax/accounting function preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including experience with VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, PivotTables, and advanced formulas.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally.
