Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a Target Missile Ground Test Engineer to lead and plan ground testing for missile development programs supporting DoD flight test efforts. You will coordinate multi-disciplinary teams and ensure environmental and functional tests meet sponsor and mission requirements.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
• Experience in Test & Evaluation activities such as: wind tunnel testing, electro-optical testing, environmental testing, or flight testing for missile development programs or similar kinetic weapons.
• Ability to work on multiple complex program tasks independently with little supervision.
• Knowledge of the systems engineering process.
• Willingness to take on additional work and challenges and to develop new skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to travel up to 20-25% of time.
• Eligibility to obtain Interim Secret and Top Secret clearances required.

Responsibilities

• Develop ground test requirements, objectives, plans, and schedules for target missile development activities.
• Lead target missile hardware developmental testing through the lifecycle of hardware design.
• Serve as integration and test expert for APL-developed target missile hardware and coordinate with test ranges and suppliers.
• Lead environmental qualification testing and develop testing plans and test levels.
• Coordinate test resources and ensure facilities, personnel, and technical requirements are met.
• Act as a point of contact for ground testing with sponsors, ranges, and contractor organizations.
• Lead coordination and synchronization of ground and flight test activities including functional, environmental, and wind tunnel testing.
• Coordinate Test Team meetings and manage Plans of Action and Milestones (POAMs).
• Support hardware integration & test activities onsite at CONUS and OCONUS ranges.
