Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Target Missile Ground Test Engineer to plan and execute ground tests for missile development programs. This role involves leading hardware testing, coordinating with ranges and suppliers, and ensuring environmental qualification of critical missile hardware.

Applicants should hold a B.S. in a related field with 3+ years’ test experience and be able to travel up to 25% of the time.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
• 3+ years of experience in Test and Evaluation activities such as wind tunnel, electro-optical, environmental, or flight testing.
• Ability to work on multiple complex program tasks with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of the systems engineering process.
• Willingness to take on additional work and develop new skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
• Travel to sponsor, contractor, and test sites up to 20-25% time.
• U.S. citizenship and Interim Secret clearance with potential for Top Secret.

Responsibilities

• Develop ground test requirements, objectives, plans and schedules for target missile development.
• Lead hardware developmental testing through the lifecycle of hardware design.
• Serve as integration and test expert for APL hardware and coordinate with test range and providers.
• Lead environmental qualification testing and oversee test planning and execution.
• Coordinate test resource usage with facilities, personnel and stakeholders.
• Act as point of contact for ground testing with sponsors and ranges.
• Lead daily coordination and synchronization of ground and flight test activities.
• Coordinate Test Team meetings and manage Plans of Action and Milestones.
• Support hardware Integration & Test at CONUS and OCONUS ranges.
