Role Overview

The Chief Engineer reports to the Master and is responsible for managing the Engineering Department, ensuring the safe, efficient, and economical operation, maintenance, and repair of the vessel.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Ensure compliance with company’s MS requirements and environmental programs.
  2. Oversee the safety, discipline, and performance of the engineering staff.
  3. Maintain the cleanliness and proper functioning of the engine room and all machinery spaces.
  4. Manage storage of spare parts, engine stores, and consumables.
  5. Supervise vessel’s structural maintenance and repairs.
  6. Ensure proper operation and maintenance of engine and auxiliary systems.
  7. Maintain accurate engineering records and logs.
  8. Allocate watch-keeping duties, ensuring licensed Engineer in charge at all times.
  9. Ensure crew adherence to rest periods per STCW and OPA90 guidelines.
  10. Manage fuel, water, and other essential supplies.
  11. Oversee planned maintenance system and inventory management.
  12. Conduct daily machinery rounds and oversee environmental compliance related to machinery operations.
  13. Manage waste handling, pollution prevention, and related environmental concerns.
  14. Ensure proper management of engine room waste and records.
