Position Description

PALA Interstate, LLC

Summary

Lays out, fits, and welds together metal components of products such as pipelines, boilers, tanks, structural steel, and vehicles.

Reads, studies, and interprets job specifications, plans, and blueprints. Uses basic math skills, including geometry and trigonometry, to make calculations for work. Can complete difficult job tasks according to job specifications with minimal or no supervision.

Essential Functions

• Follow all safety rules and set an example in Safety, Quality, and Production.
• Weld to Section 9 of ASME Code in all positions.
• Operate air arc-gouging and burning torch with minimal grinding.
• Operate all air and electric power tools used in tank repair.
• Recognize proper fit-up of weld joints and follow welding methods.
• Use proper rigging techniques.
• Use key plates and fit-up equipment to control banding and peaking in seams.
• Weld approximately 180 linear feet of seal pass weld using 5P 3/16" electrodes.
• Weld approximately 250 linear feet of jet weld on 3/16" and 1/4" CS lap weld using 7024-1 electrodes.
• Weld approximately 130 linear feet of 3/8" corner weld using 7/32" 7018 electrodes.
• Complete vertical and horizontal welds for specified thicknesses with acceptable quality.
• Complete items 8-10 with no more than 30 minutes of pickup work per day.
• Complete item 11 with a RT rate of 95% or higher.
• Work at elevations using ladders and scaffolds, and in shell buggies.
• Perform work under breathing air conditions with respirators.
• Perform other tank duties as needed.
• Work in confined spaces.
• Operate a Man-Lift.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Trade School training preferred.
