Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Monitor and control operation of chemical storage tanks and transfer/dispensing systems.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance of tanks and equipment with Maintenance staff.
• Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
• Manage loading and unloading of drums, tank trucks, and railcars.
• Record inventory levels and coordinate projected lead times with procurement.
• Work with Production Manager to ensure schedule adherence.
• Support raw material quality checks to inform procurement decisions.
• Respond to spills, leaks and emergencies appropriately.
• Maintain accurate regulatory documentation and records.
• Participate in safety and operations training programs.

We're hiring an experienced Tank Farm Technician to join our high-performing team.

At General Plastics Manufacturing Company, we manufacture rigid and flexible polyurethane foam (LAST-A-FOAM®) and build-to-print composite parts for commercial, military, and aerospace customers — work we've done for almost 85 years.

Position Overview

The Tank Farm Technician plays a crucial role in the logistics and operational efficiency of production and distribution for our polyurethane products. After a significant technical training period, this individual will monitor and control the flow of materials within the tank farm, ensure safety protocols are followed, and keep equipment operating effectively. This includes contributing to raw material quality analysis and procurement support to maintain adequate inventory positions and lead times. The role requires attention to detail with plumbing and dispensing equipment, the ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, curiosity to learn chemistry and polyurethane reactions, strong cross-departmental teamwork, and a commitment to operational integrity.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitor and control the operation of chemical storage tanks and transfer/dispensing systems
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance of storage tanks and associated equipment alongside Maintenance Engineering staff
• Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations
• Manage the loading and unloading of drums, tank trucks, and railcars
• Conduct regular maintenance and calibration of equipment
• Record and report inventory levels and product movements; coordinate projected lead times with the procurement manager
• Work closely with the Production Manager to ensure schedule adherence
• Support raw material quality checks to inform procurement and inventory decisions
• Respond to spills, leaks, and other emergencies appropriately
• Maintain accurate documentation for regulatory compliance
• Participate in ongoing training programs for safety and operational procedures

Requirements

• Must qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR export control regulations
• Minimum high school diploma, with an interest in chemistry and technology
• Previous experience in tank farm operations or a related field
• Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and safety practices including HAZWOPER
• Familiarity with environmental regulations and compliance standards
• Basic understanding of fluid dynamics and chemical properties
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Effective communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work in indoor/outdoor environments, including adverse weather conditions
• Physical stamina to perform manual tasks and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification to operate heavy equipment or specialized machinery (e.g., forklift/powered industrial truck)
• Prior experience in a chemical manufacturing or industrial environment
