Monroe County Schools in Tennessee seeks an Academic Advisor for the TRIO Talent Search program. The role is full-time for 11 months, managing a caseload of 200-250 students in grades 6-12 and serving Tellico area schools.

The position requires experience with disadvantaged students, TRIO familiarity, classroom management or teaching, and knowledge of local schools. Travel to target schools is expected; start date is 9/1/2026.

Description The TRIO Talent Search (TS), a grant funded pre-college intervention academic program, has an opening for an Academic Advisor. The position is full-time 11 month with a caseload of 200-250 students grades 6-12. Position will serve students at the Tellico area schools.

Requirements Preferred Qualifications: Experience with disadvantaged 6-12th grade students and/or TRIO experience. Classroom management and/or teaching experience. Knowledge and familiarity with Monroe and Loudon County schools.

Skills and abilities: Ability to establish rapport with students from diverse backgrounds and with school, college, and community professionals. Effective oral and written communication skills. Knowledge and experience with academic and career guidance as it relates to working with disadvantaged youth, technology, learning skills development, financial aid, and post-secondary admissions requirements.

Summary of job duties: This Academic Advisor position is designed to help students reach their educational and career goals through recruitment and advisement. In addition to the recruitment of participants, the position provides advisement on academic issues including the completion of a rigorous high school curriculum, high school graduation and college entry/graduation, scholarship and financial aid eligibility, application information, and post-secondary selection/application. In addition to advisement, the position requires the development and delivery of college preparatory curriculum for participants in approved target schools which is age/grade appropriate, the development and implementation of program activities promoting college entry such as campus visits to colleges and universities, and other college preparatory campus/initiatives. As required by the U.S. Department of Education, record keeping duties for this position include the entry and maintenance of hard copy and database files for all program participants, documentation of services provided, and tracking/reporting student progress for annual performance reporting. This position will also be required to travel by car to target schools and may be required to travel by air or car for work-related events. The ability to work with others in a collegial, harmonious manner (especially with members of one’s own team) is an essential function of this position.

Position is grant funded by a TRIO grant through the U.S. Dept of Education. Salary is also set by grant funding.
