Job description

A few years ago, we asked a question: what if pets with problems that can’t wait — but don’t belong in the ER — had somewhere great to go? And what if the people providing that care actually loved their jobs? Today the answer is Truss Vet, with six veterinary urgent care clinics across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee, a growing community of doctors, and more on the way.

At Truss Vet, we’re on a mission to elevate the human-animal bond by removing barriers to compassionate, high-quality veterinary care. Our urgent care clinics are built for pets with non-life-threatening issues that don’t belong in the ER but can’t wait for a regular vet visit. The sweet spot between general practice and emergency care. We deliver exceptional medical outcomes while ensuring a better quality of life for our team. Yes, both. That’s the whole point.

The Talent Acquisition Specialist will help Truss Vet grow by finding and attracting exceptional people who share our mission and values. Reporting to the Director of People, you'll manage full-cycle recruiting across our clinics and home office, partnering with hiring managers to fill critical roles, build candidate pipelines, and deliver a positive candidate experience. This is an opportunity to shape how we attract talent and build the teams that will support our continued growth.

This is a hybrid role with three days per week in person. Candidates based near our Durham, NC headquarters are preferred, but we're open to candidates in other locations who can meet the in-person and travel expectations of the role. Travel is required to attend approximately 4–6 recruiting events per year, and overnight travel is expected.

  • Reports to: Director of People
  • Location: Hybrid; Durham, NC preferred (3 days in person per week)
  • Travel: Required; approximately 4–6 recruiting events per year, including overnight travel. All business-related travel expenses will be covered by Truss Vet in accordance with company policy.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage recruiting from job posting and sourcing through screening, interview coordination, offers, and onboarding handoff.
  • Partner with hiring managers to define role requirements, prioritize openings, and develop effective recruiting strategies.
  • Source candidates through job boards, LinkedIn, referrals, professional networks, and other creative channels.
  • Screen candidates for qualifications, interest, and alignment with Truss Vet’s mission and values.
  • Keep candidates and hiring managers informed throughout the process, ensuring timely communication and a positive candidate experience.
  • Support offer preparation and follow-up in partnership with hiring managers and the Director of People.
  • Build and maintain pipelines for veterinarians, veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, client service team members, and home office roles.
  • Develop proactive sourcing strategies for hard-to-fill positions and anticipated staffing needs.
  • Build relationships with veterinary schools, training programs, professional associations, and other relevant talent communities.
  • Support employee referral initiatives and other efforts to expand our candidate network.
  • Adjust sourcing strategies based on hiring priorities, candidate availability, and recruiting results.
Recruiting Operations & Reporting (20%)
  • Maintain accurate candidate records, job postings, and recruiting activity in the applicant tracking system (ATS) and other recruiting tools.
  • Track key metrics, including time to fill, sourcing effectiveness, pipeline progress, and offer acceptance.
  • Provide regular updates on open positions, recruiting progress, and challenges.
  • Maintain consistent recruiting workflows and interview practices, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency as Truss Vet grows.
  • Ensure recruiting practices align with applicable employment laws and company policies while protecting candidate confidentiality.
Employer Brand & Candidate Experience (10%)
  • Communicate Truss Vet’s mission, culture, and employee experience throughout the recruiting process.
  • Ensure job postings and candidate communications accurately reflect our brand and opportunities.
  • Partner with the Director of People and clinic leaders to strengthen our reputation as an employer of choice.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the candidate experience and attract talent in our existing and expansion markets.
You're a Great Fit If:

You’re a relationship builder. You connect easily with people, engage candidates, and build trust with hiring managers.

You’re proactive and resourceful. You know how to find great candidates, build pipelines, and adjust your approach when a search gets challenging.

You’re organized and follow through. You can manage multiple openings and deadlines while keeping candidates and hiring managers informed.

You care about the candidate experience. You communicate promptly, treat people with respect, and understand that every interaction shapes how candidates view Truss Vet.

You’re comfortable with data and recruiting tools. You use an ATS and recruiting metrics to stay organized, track progress, and improve results.

You thrive in a growing organization. You're adaptable, take ownership of your work, and enjoy improving processes as the business evolves.
