Job summary

LFCD in Oakland, CA is seeking a full-time Talent Acquisition & HR Assistant to support recruitment, onboarding, employee records, benefits, and compliance. The role collaborates with staff across the organization to maintain accurate HR files and ensure adherence to applicable laws.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in HR, business or related field preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree desirable.
  • 1–3 years administrative or HR experience preferred.
  • Nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of HR principles and employment laws.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
  • Experience with HRIS and ATS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support for daily HR operations.
  • Assist with recruitment: post announcements, schedule interviews, communicate with applicants, maintain records.
  • Coordinate new hire onboarding, packets and orientation materials.
  • Maintain confidential HR files and records per policy and law.
  • Assist with employment documents and eligibility verification.
  • Manage pre-employment checks and background screenings.
  • Maintain HR databases and applicant tracking systems for accuracy.
  • Support CARF accreditation activities and compliance documentation.
  • Answer employee questions on policies; direct to HR staff as needed.

Education

Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
Bachelor's degree desirable
One to three years of administrative or human resources experience
Experience in nonprofit organization
Knowledge of HR principles, practices and employment laws
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
Experience with HRIS and applicant tracking systems

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Quality Assurance Supervisor, the Talent Acquisition & Human Resources (HR) Assistant provides administrative and operational support to the Operations and HR Department. This position assists with recruitment, onboarding, employee records management, benefits administration, compliance, and other HR functions while ensuring confidentiality, accuracy, and excellence.

The Talent Acquisition & HR Assistant works collaboratively with employees, supervisors, and management to support the organization’s HR operations and help ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide administrative support for the daily operations of the HR Department.

Assist with the recruitment process, including posting job announcements, scheduling interviews, communicating with applicants, and maintaining applicant records.

Coordinate new hire onboarding, including preparing onboarding packets, employment paperwork, and orientation materials.

Maintain accurate and confidential employee personnel files and HR records in accordance with organizational policies and legal requirements.

Assist employees with completing employment forms and required documentation.

Coordinate pre-employment requirements, including reference checks, background screenings, fingerprinting, and employment eligibility verification.

Maintain HR databases, applicant tracking systems, and personnel records to ensure data accuracy.

Monitor required licenses, certifications, training, and compliance documentation.

Support activities related to CARF accreditation, including attending committee and Risk Management meetings and assisting with compliance documentation and staff participation.

Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR policies, procedures, and employment-related matters or refer employees to the appropriate HR staff.

Assist with employee recognition, wellness, engagement, and training activities.

Support audits, record retention, and HR compliance initiatives.

Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned by the Quality Assurance Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field preferred. A Bachelor's degree is desirable.

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

One to three years of administrative or human resources experience is preferred.

Experience working in a nonprofit organization is preferred.

Knowledge of general human resources principles, practices, and employment laws.

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and applicant tracking systems is preferred.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Ability to travel locally to attend meetings, training, and other agency activities as needed.

Compensation

Salary is dependent upon education, experience, and qualifications.
