Job summary

YMCA seeks a part-time Taekwondo Instructor to lead classes for youth and adults, providing guidance in Taekwondo and Jiu-Jitsu. The role emphasizes safety, inclusivity, and teamwork, with opportunities to mentor students and contribute to the gym environment.

You will promote martial arts fundamentals, stay current with techniques, and help students achieve fitness goals while representing the YMCA values in the local community.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and 18 years of age minimum.
  • Black Belt in Taekwondo.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Experience as a martial arts instructor, preferably with youth and adults.
  • Strong knowledge of boxing techniques, self-defense, and martial arts principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage a diverse student group.
  • Able to create and deliver dynamic, age-appropriate training sessions.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain upon hiring.
  • Additional certifications in martial arts (e.g., Tae Kwon Do, MMA) are a plus.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead engaging classes for students of all levels (ages 6 to adults).
  • Provide personalized instruction and feedback to improve technique and stamina.
  • Create a safe, inclusive training environment that promotes respect and teamwork.
  • Assist with gym maintenance and cleanliness to maintain a professional atmosphere.
  • Develop and adapt training programs to suit different ages and skill levels.
  • Encourage students to set and achieve fitness and martial arts goals.
  • Stay up to date with training techniques, trends, and safety guidelines.
  • Supervise assistant instructors and ensure the classroom is clean and safe.
  • Promote the YMCA's values, mission, and wellness philosophy within the community.
  • Lead by example and represent the YMCA's mission and culture.
  • Serve as an ambassador of the YMCA and its brand.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

As a Taekwondo Instructor, you help students develop and master skills in Taekwondo & Jiu-Jitsu. Most importantly, you show children that Martial Arts is fun!

How You Will Make an Impact

What You Bring to the Y
  • You have a high school diploma or equivalent and are a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Black Belt in Taekwondo
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications must be obtained within30 daysof employment.
  • Previous experience as a martial arts instructor, preferably with experience working with youth and adults.
  • Strong knowledge of boxing techniques, self-defense, and martial arts principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate a diverse group of students.
  • Demonstratedability to create and deliver dynamic and age-appropriate training sessions.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
  • Additionalcertifications in martial arts disciplines such asTae Kwon Do or mixed martial arts are preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus.
