Helen Keller Services (HKS) seeks a Tactile American Sign Language Interpreter to provide in-person tactile interpreting to the Director of Field Services and collaborate with the Administrative Assistant/Interpreter. This part-time role (21‑28 per week) is based in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Responsibilities include on-campus and field interpreting, ASL/Pro-Tactile instruction, consumer education on interpreting issues, and possible travel to field sites, including Sands Point, NY.

Competenze

• Proficiency in methods of communication utilized by individuals who are DeafBlind.
• Two or three years of interpreting experience with individuals who are DeafBlind and/or deaf‑visually impaired.

Mansioni

• Provide on-campus and field interpreting as required.
• Provide instruction in American Sign Language and Pro-Tactile and/or adaptation to accessible Communication to Director of Field Services and HKNC staff as assigned.
• Provide consumer education related to interpreting issues.
• Accompany and serve as an SSP/CoNavigator and/or interpreter for the Director of Field Services and professional staff members. Travel to field sites and events as needed.
• Flexibility with work schedules, including some evening hours and overnight stays; occasional travel may be required.

Bachelor’s degree

North Carolina Interpreter Transliterator Licensure

RID/NAD NIC Knowledge test

RID/NAD NIC certification within 5 years
