KBR, for TACOM on a military installation, seeks a Mechanical Engineer (Contingency) to plan, design, manage, and support mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and industrial equipment. Your work ensures reliability and mission readiness across facilities.

You will develop studies, plans, specifications, and cost estimates; manage execution from planning to completion; supervise testing, commissioning, and inspections; and mentor staff while ensuring compliance with codes

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, and standards related to facility and industrial systems.
• Experience with HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, utility distribution, and industrial equipment.
• Ability to prepare, review, and interpret engineering designs, specifications, calculations, and cost estimates.
• Knowledge of codes and standards including ASHRAE, NFPA, and IBC/Mechanical Code requirements.
• Experience managing engineering/construction projects and contractor oversight.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Office; U.S. Government security clearance eligibility.

Program Summary

The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) sustains the Army’s mission to develop, acquire, field, and sustain ground combat, tactical, and support systems throughout their lifecycle. The program focuses on ensuring operational readiness, reliability, and safety of automotive and ground support equipment critical to Army operations.

Under this contract, personnel provide maintenance, repair, overhaul, and sustainment support in accordance with Army technical manuals, safety standards, and performance requirements.

Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, managing, and supporting mechanical systems and infrastructure projects at a military installation. This position provides professional engineering expertise for the design, construction, maintenance, repair, and modernization of facility mechanical systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, fire protection, industrial equipment, and utility systems. Responsibilities include developing engineering studies, plans, specifications, and cost estimates; managing project execution; conducting inspections and assessments; and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, safety regulations, and engineering standards. The Mechanical Engineer collaborates with engineers, contractors, maintenance personnel, and installation leadership to deliver reliable, efficient, and mission-critical mechanical systems that support facility operations and mission readiness.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and manage mechanical engineering projects supporting facility infrastructure, industrial operations, and mission requirements.
• Develop and review mechanical system designs, drawings, specifications, calculations, and cost estimates for new construction, renovations, repairs, and modernization projects.
• Serve as project manager for assigned mechanical projects, overseeing project scope, schedule, budget, and execution from planning through completion.
• Conduct engineering studies, facility assessments, and system evaluations to identify deficiencies and recommend cost-effective engineering solutions.
• Provide technical oversight of mechanical construction, maintenance, testing, and commissioning activities to ensure compliance with design requirements, safety standards, and applicable regulations.
• Inspect and evaluate mechanical systems and equipment, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, compressed air, utility distribution, and industrial systems, to ensure reliability and operational readiness.
• Coordinate with engineers, architects, contractors, maintenance personnel, and regulatory agencies to support project planning and execution.
• Review contractor submittals, technical documentation, shop drawings, and design modifications for compliance with project requirements and engineering standards.
• Investigate and resolve complex mechanical engineering issues affecting facility operations, infrastructure, energy efficiency, and mission support activities.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering technicians and junior staff while supporting continuous improvement and long-range infrastructure planning initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, and standards related to the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and modernization of facility and industrial mechanical systems.
• Experience with mechanical systems such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, utility distribution, and industrial equipment.
• Ability to prepare, review, and interpret engineering designs, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, and technical reports.
• Knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards, including ASHRAE, NFPA, and International Building Code/Mechanical Code requirements.
• Experience managing or supporting engineering and construction projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, quality assurance, and contractor oversight.
• Proficiency with engineering and design software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (as required)
• U.S. citizenship required

The salary range for this position is $102,400 - $153,600. Compensation offered will depend on qualifications, experience, work location, and business considerations. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. Additional compensation and benefits may be available based on role eligibility.
