Responsibilities

  • Operate chassis and/or engine dynamometer systems to test motor vehicles following maintenance or repair.
  • Inspect motor vehicle mechanical systems including engine, transmission, drivetrain, fuel, exhaust, and cooling systems.
  • Verify compliance with Army Technical Manuals (TMs), test procedures, and inspection criteria.
  • Monitor and interpret dyno test data, readings, and performance indicators.
  • Identify deficiencies, malfunctions, or non-conforming conditions and document findings.
  • Coordinate corrective actions or rework with mechanics and supervisors, providing technical guidance on test results.
  • Certify completed maintenance actions and approve vehicles for return to service when standards are met.
  • Ensure dyno operations comply with all safety, environmental, and equipment requirements.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, dyno reports, and quality documentation.

Program Summary

The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) sustains the Army’s mission to develop, acquire, field, and sustain ground combat, tactical, and support systems throughout their lifecycle. The program focuses on ensuring operational readiness, reliability, and safety of automotive and ground support equipment critical to Army operations. Under this contract, personnel provide maintenance, repair, overhaul, and sustainment support in accordance with Army technical manuals, safety standards, and performance requirements.

Job Summary

The Inspector, Dyno Operator performs inspection, testing, and certification of motor vehicles using dynamometer (dyno) systems following maintenance, repair, or rebuild actions. This role combines advanced motor vehicle mechanical expertise with dyno operation and inspection authority to ensure vehicles meet required performance, safety, and quality standards prior to acceptance and return to service. This position is classified one grade above Motor Vehicle Mechanic due to dyno qualification requirements, independent judgment, and responsibility for inspection sign‑off and acceptance decisions. This position is contingent upon award.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Operate chassis and/or engine dynamometer systems to test motor vehicles following maintenance or repair
  • Conduct performance testing to evaluate engine output, drivetrain operation, braking, and system functionality
  • Inspect motor vehicle mechanical systems including engine, transmission, drivetrain, fuel, exhaust, and cooling systems
  • Verify compliance with Army Technical Manuals (TMs), test procedures, and inspection criteria
  • Monitor and interpret dyno test data, readings, and performance indicators
  • Identify deficiencies, malfunctions, or non-conforming conditions and document findings
  • Coordinate corrective actions or rework with mechanics and supervisors, providing technical guidance on test results, performance issues, and corrective actions
  • Certify completed maintenance actions and approve vehicles for return to service when standards are met
  • Ensure dyno operations comply with all safety, environmental, and equipment requirements
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, dyno reports, and quality documentation
  • Conduct pre-operational safety checks of dyno equipment and test setups
  • Support audits, quality inspections, customer visits, and government reviews
  • Enforce safety, environmental, and quality compliance during all test and inspection activities
Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; supplemental technical or vocational training preferred
  • Completion of Motor Vehicle Mechanic training or equivalent experience
  • Typically 5+ years of experience performing motor vehicle maintenance or repair
  • Qualified and certified to operate vehicle dynamometer (dyno) equipment
  • Advanced knowledge of motor vehicle engines, drivetrains, and performance systems
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret Army Technical Manuals, inspection criteria, and test procedures
  • Experience conducting vehicle inspections, testing, and acceptance verification
  • Strong attention to detail and technical documentation accuracy
  • Ability to perform work in physically demanding environments
  • Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (as required)
  • U.S. citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience performing dyno testing on DoD, Army, or TACOM programs
  • Experience supporting tactical or combat vehicle maintenance operations
  • Familiarity with Army quality control, inspection processes, and readiness reporting
  • Prior government contracting experience

This position will be a part of a physical work environment that requires standing, walking, and lifting. There is potential exposure to machinery, tools, fuels, oils, and outdoor conditions. Employees may also be required to work shifts, overtime, or weekend support based on mission needs.
