Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently drive the asphalt distributor.
  • Load the distribution tank with asphalt material.
  • Perform pre and post trip inspections on the assigned vehicle.

Job description

Job Title: Tack Truck Driver

Location: Richmond, VA

Major Role and Purpose:

Safely and efficiently drive the asphalt distributor to spray liquid asphalt as needed.

Description of Duties:

  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all federal, state, local and company safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
  • Drive asphalt distributor to spray liquid asphalt as needed.
  • Load distribution tank with asphalt material and regulate burner to maintain specified temperature.
  • Set spray bar on manual, automatic, or semiautomatic distributors, that sprays tar, asphalt, road oils and emulsions over highways, streets, and parking areas.
  • Observe distribution of material over surface and monitor instruments to ensure uniform distribution.
  • Turn valve to regulate flow of material at specified rate.
  • Monitor flow gauges, tachometer, and temperature gauges.
  • Direct handheld nozzle to control spray over designated area with specified coverage.
  • Set string line on edges of road if needed.
  • Perform pre and post trip inspections on assigned vehicle.
  • Assist crew with shoveling and other tasks when tack truck is not in use.
  • Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum one (1) year previous experience preferred.

Skills Required:

  • Must possess a valid CDL, Class A or B license with a Tanker endorsement.
  • HAZMATendorsement preferred.
  • Understand DOT guidelines and regulations.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Experience working in and around construction sites.
  • Able to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to operate additional heavy equipment a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Job requires the following motions: climbing, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, vibrating, and reaching.
  • Requires lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Overtime work is required.
  • Potential exposure to extremes of hot or cold weather.
