Job summary

Rolls-Royce in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a System Safety & Reliability Engineer for the T56/Helicopters programs. You will ensure safety and reliability attributes are understood and risks are managed to an acceptable level, collaborating with Design, System, and Service Engineers throughout the product life cycle.

You will model degradation and failure mechanisms, evaluate design options, and deploy safety analyses at component, system, and fleet levels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or Engineering, or equivalent in preferred field.
  • Master’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or Engineering, or JD/PhD as alternative.

Responsibilities

  • Develop models that characterize degradation and failure mechanisms.
  • Assess design solutions and maintenance practices for safety and reliability impact.
  • Support safety analyses (FHA, FMECA, System Safety Assessment) across lifecycle.
  • Contribute to FRACAS and event management in development and in-service phases.

This role involves the integration of diverse areas of technical knowledge to create and support complex systems operating under highly challenging conditions. In this position you will support our engineering products throughout their life cycle; working with Design, System, and Service Engineers to ensure our products meet company, customer, and regulatory requirements.What you will be doing:Understanding the product's degradation and failure mechanisms, associated consequences, with the aim to eliminate or reduce product hazards. Develop models that characterize these mechanisms using deterministic or probabilistic/data mining techniques.Assess new and derivative design solutions, product operation and maintenance practices to evaluate the impact on product safety and reliability. Develop and deploy models at component, system, asset, and fleet levels to characterize product safety and reliability. Support the associated part/function classification activities.Support product development and new product introduction phases through Safety & Reliability Engineering analysis and documentation (e.g. FHA, FMECA, System Safety Assessment, etc.).Support the FRACAS or relevant event management system both in development and in-service phases.Basic Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or Engineering with 1+ years of experience in statistics, probability and reliability prediction, ORMaster’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or Engineering, ORJD/PhDIn order to be considered for this opportunity, you must be a US Citizen or Permanent ResidentPreferred Requirements:Experience with T56/501 and/or Helicopter engine products Knowledge of Rolls-Royce Safety Management processes and principlesMulti-disciplinary collaboration skills, including facilitation and communication at the component, sub-system, and system level2+ years of product safety engineering experience, software development, or systems safety analysisApplication of agile development methods to deliver engineering work productsExperience with military qualification and/or FAA certification of airborne systemsFamiliarity with the one or more of the following standards: ARP4754, ARP4761, MIL-STD-882, MIL-STD-1629, DO-178C, DO-254, AMCOM 385 and IEE 1633-2016Gas turbine engine, propulsion, or electrical control system experienceDemonstrated experience with control system design and one or more of the following tools: Fault Tree+, Reliability Workbench, DOORS, Cameo Systems ModelerKnowledge of systems engineering, and robust design tools and techniques coupled with the latest model-centric development approachesOur vision is to ensure that the quality and dynamism that shaped our history continues into our future.
