Job summary

BWXT's Nuclear Fuel Services division in Erwin, Tennessee is seeking a WM Technical Services Unit Manager to oversee waste characterization, certification, and related programs, ensuring compliance with NRC, EPA, and DOT requirements.

You will lead technical staff, develop cost analyses for off-site disposal, coordinate training, and partner with off-site facilities and internal functions to deliver a safe, compliant waste management program.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in science or engineering preferred or 8+ years supervisory/management experience with DOT/RCRA knowledge.
  • With BS, 9–10 years supervisory/management in technical production, nuclear or military facilities.
  • Without BS, 14+ years supervisory/management in a technical production environment with regulatory knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and provide direction to technical staff in waste characterization, certification, and programs.
  • Formulate programs to ensure NRC, EPA, and DOT compliance and site waste acceptance criteria.
  • Develop and maintain cost–benefit analyses for off-site transportation and disposal costs.
  • Provide technical direction to plant personnel in waste management practices.
  • Coordinate employee training programs related to waste management principles.
  • Establish and maintain liaison with plant functions for integrated waste management.
  • Cultivate relationships with off-site facilities and customers/vendors as required.
  • Work with other WM Unit Managers to maintain a safe, compliant waste program.
  • Direct and control procurement of equipment, goods, and services to support WM programs.

T&WM Technical Services Unit Manager
Position Overview

This position is responsible for managing all aspects of NFS' Waste Programs, Waste Engineering, and Waste Certification/oversight in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; in addition to site-specific waste acceptance creiteria. This position is the principle technical liaison with off-site treatment and disposal facilities.

On-site in Erwin, Tennessee.

Your Day to Day as a T&WM Technical Services Unit Manager:
  • Lead and provide direction to technical staff in the discipline of waste characterization, waste certification, and waste programs.
  • Formulate programs and procedures to assure compliance with NRC, EPA, & DOT regulations, as well as the site specific waste acceptance criteria for each disposal facility (NNSS, WCS, Energy Solutions).
  • Develop and maintain cost benefit analysis for off-site transfportation and waste disposal cost including management of contractual and funding allocations.
  • Provide technical direction to plant population in the characterization and management of waste.
  • Coordinate the development of employee training programs applicable to waste management principles.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with all plant functions to assure integration of waste management principles.
  • Cultivate and maintain technical reloationship with off-site facilities/customers/vendors such as NNSS, WCS, BPMI, state agencies, NOG, Perma-Fix, Westinghouse, BWXT, Energy Solutions and others as required.
  • Work with other T&WM Unit Managers to develop and maintain a safe, compliant, and effective waste management program.
  • Direct and control the purhcase of equipment, goods, and services as requried to support NFS' T&WM Programs.
Required Qualifications

B. A. or B. S. degree -- Science or Engineering preferred OR 8 years of operations supervisory/management experience with knowledge of DOT and RCRA regulations.

With a B. S. degree, nine - ten years of supervisory/management experience in a technical production environment, nuclear facility or military facility. Without a B. S. Degree, over 14 years of supervisory/management experience in a technical production environment, nuclear facility or military facility and knowledge of DOT and RCRA regulations.

Pay: $114,000 - $180,000

The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $114,000 and $180,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will', unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
