POSITION OVERVIEW
Provides project management for the development and construction of transmission and distribution projects, both line and substation.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides project management and leadership expertise in the development and construction of transmission and distribution projects. There will be significant management of service and construction contractors.
- Leads multi-disciplined teams comprised of internal and external members through project development, preparation, and execution phases including cost estimate preparation, business approvals, assurance of permits and ROW, material procurement, contract procurement, construction management and safety oversight.
- Responsible for all project governance including developing and maintaining project scope, budgets and forecasts, as well as approvals, controls, and closure.
- Maintains project accuracy in the SharePoint system, and uses project management software (Microsoft Project, etc.) to schedule, track and coordinate projects.
- Working with the Projects Coordinator and Legal Department, develops and manages contracts and agreements for all phases of transmission and distribution projects, including conducting bid processes and contract negotiations.
- Provides business expertise, assists in preparing business cases, financial analysis, and supports management decision making.
- Keeps records to facilitate the proper close-out of projects with operational accuracy, and appropriate financial and records retention closure.
- Ensures safety performance and environmental compliance for projects. Ensures implementation of the Company Contractor Safety Program.
- Oversees internal tagholders, and internal and external field construction managers.
- Responsible for project scheduling and coordination with Company Line Operations, PST and external telcom companies.
- Manages communication, relationships, and stakeholder management with external parties including local municipalities, property owners and businesses, and coordinates these efforts with internal resources.
- Understands and complies with all internal project development and procurement processes.
- Works in accordance with the documented environmental procedures, instructions, and specific responsibilities as defined in individual procedures and instructions. Reports problems or deviations associated with environmental issues and the Environmental Management System (EMS) to the Environmental Department.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other related duties as assigned including designated duties associated with storm restoration.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Position requires strong business acumen, project management, leadership and general management skills.
- Requires skills in work planning, scheduling, forecasting, organizing and analysis.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and team-building skills required.
- Position requires excellent technology skills, including proficiency in project management/scheduling software, SharePoint, Excel, Project, Word, Powerpoint, SmartSheet, and internal Company planning systems.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken required. Comfortable with public speaking in some settings such as town meetings, and informational forums.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities, schedules, budgets, and meet deadlines.
- Comfort in handling surveying, mapping and other spatial tools and considerations.
- Experience in managing contractors and contract documents preferred.
- Position requires a minimum of five years of experience in project management, transmission/distribution line or substation operations, or related fields.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience managing capital projects strongly preferred.
- Formal education degree is preferred.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Position requires both office and field work, and requires walking, standing, and driving. Construction projects require regular field visits to remote, outdoor job sites. Some evening meetings may be required. Some projects require overnight travel.
- Position requires flexible schedule and frequent hours outside of the normal business hours.
