Job description

Richmond, Virginia, United States BENTO:ENGINEERING

$ 50,000.00 - 75,000.00 (US Dollar)

About the job Systems & Security Administrator

We are a professional services & technology company that works with small business clients in legal, wealth, and tech. We provide IT services grounded on our control framework, build our own software to make things work, love automation and AI, and solve problems for customers big and small.

Our values are centered around personal and fiduciary responsibility. We expect all staff to always do the right thing, work in the interest of our clients, and grow in their positions. While we are fanatical about our customers, we do so at no expense to our staff's learning, advancement, and family.

We are looking for a dynamic individual who strives for order in the chaos, is motivated to continuously learn and actively exhibits the pillars of our culture communication, collaboration, trust, and fun. You will be evaluated on customer obsession, ownership, ingenuity, and bias for action.

Location: We are seeking a candidate in Richmond, Virginia. This is a remote position.

Responsibilities:

The Systems and Security Administrator will be one of the primary points of technical escalation for all managed services clients. You will step in, learn our ways quickly, and solve challenges on day one. You will use automation, AI, and our technologies to make life better for our customers, for the team, and for yourself. Your success will be measured on how well we can rebalance the workload and improve our work-life balance together.

We expect our team to have end-to-end understanding of writing and managing code including version control, code reviews, building and deployment, best practices, and secrets management.

  • General:
    • You live and breathe macOS, but you are also well-versed in Windows.
    • Automation of redundant tasks, scripting, and writing of functions that get things done.
    • Demonstrated use of AI to improve yourself.
    • Provide support for devices and users.
    • Practical experience in implementing, maintaining, and managing security controls.
    • Participate in the sales process. Help us grow.
    • Maintain documentation internal and external. Write procedures, summaries, and notes.
    • Work with modern support systems for interacting with our clients.
    • Prepare content for customers including presentations, tutorials, and custom training.
    • Evaluate vulnerabilities, the risks they pose, and suggest mitigation actions.
    • Optimize things that need optimizing, recognize change and adapt quickly.
  • Identity & Device Management
    • Centralized Identity and Access Management through third-party systems (Okta, Auth0, JumpCloud) and primary systems like Google and Microsoft Entra ID.
    • Mobile Device Management and remote management and administration of endpoints including policies, automation, script execution, and troubleshooting in bespoke environments.
    • Light-touch and zero-touch deployment of client systems via Apple Business Manager connections and Windows Autopilot/Intune.
  • Infrastructure:
    • Windows Server environments (Active Directory, Group Policy, FSMO roles, DHCP, DNS, NTP, DFS, etc.)
    • E-Mail delivery and protection. Beyond routing and filtering, we expect our team to have a strong practical understanding of anti-phishing and data protection services.
    • Amazon Web Services environments utilizing VPC, EC2, ECS, RDS, S3 with knowledge demonstrated by AWS SysOps Administrator Associate Certification or parallel practical experience.
    • Microsoft 365 & relevant Azure services including the full Defender suite, device management, conditional access, OAUTH, SAML. PowerApps experience a plus.
  • Network:
    • Working knowledge of Cisco Meraki firewalls, switches, and access points. (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, VLANs, SNMP, VoIP, etc.)
    • Virtual Private Networks with layered design.
    • Implementation of lateral movement protections.
  • Apps:
    • Pragmatic and practical experience with business line applications especially in legal, wealth management, or even startups. This is a broad area and we're looking for high-level knowledge as much as practical experience with really using systems.
    • You also will need good working knowledge of issue tracking, wikis, documentation, project management, and collaboration concepts so you can use our tools.

Growth

  • We are looking to coach you into System and Security Engineer. It's on you to get there. We'll help with learning, concepts, certifications, etc.
  • We are particularly interested in candidates with No-Code and Low-Code implementation experience for projects. If you have it - talk to us about your accomplishments. We have many internal projects that need automation, optimization, and development.
  • Lastly, we are big in AI. From running local trained models to agentric implementation, you can spend your time helping us POC the future of Bento Security.

It should go without saying that...

  • You are an ace at problem-solving. To us, that means you:
    • can understand the initial request and the context that frames the problem often uncovering root causes that are far different from what is reported. Another way to say this is that you have a skill for validating issues.
    • create plausible hypotheses that are testable
    • work through each hypothesis until you arrive at the root problem
    • implement/advice/manage a resolution
    • verify it worked
    • document, optimize, or implement future mitigation.
  • You need to be able to speak and write well.
  • You need to be able to manage and track time really well for your sake and ours. Your day is 8 hours, 6 of which are work, 2 are there for your benefit to document/admin/learn. Use it well.
  • Impress our customers.
  • We don't believe in multi-tasking, and we expect you to do one thing at a time and do it well. However, serial-single-tasking is the reality of our business and you need to demonstrate that you can do that well.
  • Understand our clients.
  • Tie your work to value.
  • Know how to schedule, manage resources, and use your time effectively.

The ideal candidate possesses the following:

  • 1+ years of prior related work experience working for an MSP
  • You need to have prior relevant work experience in the field.
  • You have experience technology management for legal, wealth management, or startups.

What you can expect from us
