Job summary

SAIC is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer in Middletown, RI to perform comprehensive safety analyses, identify hazards, and recommend mitigations to reduce mishap risk. The role involves collaboration with government personnel, subcontractors, and internal teams.

The successful candidate will apply quantitative and qualitative risk assessment methods across hardware, software, and system interfaces, and review system requirements to prevent hazardous conditions. A background in MBSE is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a technical field; zero or more years of experience.
• U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain SECRET clearance (SAIC sponsorship available).
• Familiarity with MIL-STD-882E and system safety principles.
• Experience reviewing safety assessments of hardware/software/waivers/exemption requests.
• Familiarity with reviewing System Requirements to identify hazardous conditions.

Responsibilities

• Apply quantitative and qualitative risk assessment techniques to safety analyses per MIL-STD-882E and guidance.
• Analyze hardware, software, firmware, and interfaces to identify hazards affecting personnel, equipment, and environment; include fault tree and FMEA techniques.
• Review System Requirements to identify hazards and recommend design changes with program staff.
• Perform operational analyses to identify deficiencies in procedures, handling, stowage, or logistics.
• Review ESOH-related data and safety plans; prepare risk and safety assessment reports.
• Prepare or update risk and safety assessment reports and presentation materials for formal submission.
• Conduct or review safety assessments of new/updated hardware/software, waivers, and exemptions.
