Job ID: E2026-05-005

Employment Type: Full-Time / Regular

Mission

Out at sea, there’s no margin for failure. Naval systems must operate reliably in extreme conditions, constant vibration, high heat, saltwater corrosion, and continuous operational demand. The hardware that supports these missions must be engineered not just to function, but to endure.

At WR, we design and deliver the mechanical and electrical systems that protect, support, and enable critical naval technologies. From concept through deployment, our work ensures that mission‑critical equipment performs exactly as expected, when it matters most.

Summary

WR has a need for a Systems Safety Analyst to support system safety analysis, hazard mitigation, and risk management efforts for complex naval equipment and technologies.

What You'll Do
  • Review and develop systems safety programs and activities in accordance with contractual requirements
  • Develop system safety plan outlining all safety assessment processes, activities, responsibilities and deliverables consistent with governing guidelines
  • Apply engineering principles and standards to support, develop, or review system/subsystem hazard analysis, software system safety analysis, and functional hazard analysis
  • Analyze, recommend, and drive safety criteria in system design, equipment, and procedures in order to mitigate or eliminate hazards
  • Support development of systematic and comprehensive risk management of in‑service safety analysis processes, training, procedures and tools
  • Analyze data, develop written deliverables, assist with the presentation of results, and assist with the review of customer software system safety documents to verify compliance with requirements, policy, and guidance documents
  • Perform systems safety risk assessments, identify problem areas, and assist in evaluating design modifications and engineering change proposals (ECPs)
  • Flow down reliability and safety derived requirements to system design to appropriately mitigate risks
  • Develop, review, and update safety program documentation and artifacts as required to support the customer
  • Identify hazards associated with functions and systems and develop mitigation strategies in support of the certification of systems
  • Provide input and feedback to safety plans, processes, procedures, schedules, and policy documents
  • Hold broad responsibility for the analysis of all safety aspects of systems design
  • Perform, monitor, and support various systems safety demonstration and qualification testing and create/update test plans and procedures to ensure adequacy for systems safety considerations
  • Understand safety regulatory requirements applicable to system design and development program and tailor the safety assessment process to ensure these requirements are met
  • Review product systems, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establish safety requirements for assigned systems
  • Participate in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assist in identification of causes and corrective actions
  • Participate in various system safety meetings with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Evaluate the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost effective program
  • Work independently and follow through on assignments
  • May be responsible for evaluating performance of junior staff and/or subordinates
  • May assist in the selection, training, and development of staff
  • May lead and direct limited tasks assigned to junior personnel
What Makes This Role Different
  • You're not just designing parts, you're ensuring systems survive real‑world conditions at sea
  • You'll work across the full lifecycle: concept design analysis testing deployment
  • Your designs will directly support mission readiness and operational reliability
  • You'll bridge the gap between engineering design and real‑world performance
Must have qualifications
  • Technical Training in US Navy Navigation equipment and systems
  • Eight (8) + years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience (DoD and/or shipboard systems experience preferred) in developing and implementing major safety programs inclusive of systems, software, electrical and/or mechanical engineering
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into technical solutions
  • Ability to write routine reports, operating instructions, and correspondence
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with supervisors and peers
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or other employees of the organization
  • Ability to work as part of a team or collaborate with colleagues
  • Ability to comprehend and apply principles of calculus, modern algebra, and statistical theory
  • Ability to gather and summarize data for reports and to find solutions to various technical problems
  • Ability to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces

The selected candidate will be required to pass a pre‑employment third‑party background check which may include verification of any of the following: Employment history; Education and/or certifications; Criminal history; Driving Records; Other records or information related to the candidate's suitability for the position.
