About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

This role supports the Lateral/Longitudinal Controls team within Automated Drive Systems Integration, focusing on test execution, branch management, and cross-team coordination for the lat/long control stack.

Responsibilities
  • Execute functional, regression, and isolated test runs supporting lateral/longitudinal control.
  • Own and maintain the team's development branch, ensuring incoming changes are properly integrated and conflicts are resolved.
  • Coordinate software changes across teams contributing to the lateral/longitudinal control stack, flagging conflicts or dependencies early.
  • Support day-to-day lateral/longitudinal control topics, partnering with the team's technical lead on issue triage and test prioritization.
  • Work with Perception, Planning, and Systems teams to bring automated driving system components together.
    • Maintain software branches supporting iteration across new model deployments and other downstream systems.
  • Identify, document, and highlight cross-functional gaps and dependencies — proactively work toward solutions that resolve integration issues and ensure vehicle functionality.
  • Support preliminary functional verification of ADAS-related software releases on test vehicle platforms, prior to hand-off to development and validation teams.
  • Prototype tools and solutions to accelerate development and improve efficiency (e.g., Python scripts for parsing and analyzing vehicle data).
Qualifications
  • Proficiency with Git and software repository management tools.
  • Prior experience in chassis control or vehicle dynamics development preferred.
  • Prior experience with, and passion for, ADAS system control development.
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Understanding of automotive hardware and software development concepts, including continuous integration / continuous deployment (CI/CD) models.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment, proactively collaborating cross-functionally to solve vehicle-level integration problems.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle safety concepts and testing-related safety procedures.
  • Flexibility to travel domestically/internationally to support vehicle-level integration and test activities.
  • Clean driving record, with professional experience driving prototype test vehicles on test tracks.
