Job description

The Systems Integration and Automation Analyst owns the connective tissue of our business systems. This person is responsible for the EDI, API, and middleware integrations that move data between our ERP, eCommerce platforms, and third-party logistics (3PL) partners — and for building the automation that removes manual handoffs from daily operations.

This is a hands‑on role for someone equally comfortable reading an EDI 850, writing a script to reconcile two data sources, and sitting down with a production supervisor to understand why an order stalled. You will be the primary owner of how our systems talk to each other, with real latitude to redesign workflows that no longer serve the business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Integration Ownership
  • Own the full lifecycle of EDI, API, and middleware integrations across ERP, eCommerce, and 3PL systems — design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and documentation.
  • Onboard new trading partners and customer accounts: map documents, validate transaction sets, coordinate testing, and shepherd each connection through to production.
  • Administer and troubleshoot EDI transaction sets (e.g., 850, 855, 856, 810, 940, 945) and the mapping, translation, and acknowledgment logic behind them.
  • Build and maintain API integrations between platforms, including authentication, pagination, rate limiting, retry logic, and error handling.
  • Monitor integration health; diagnose and resolve failures with urgency and put controls in place so the same failure does not recur.
Automation and Data Exchange
  • Develop scalable automation workflows that eliminate manual data entry, re‑keying, and spreadsheet handoffs across order intake, production scheduling, fulfillment, and invoicing.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and auditable data exchange between platforms; reconcile data across systems and investigate discrepancies to root cause.
  • Write and maintain scripts and scheduled jobs (Python or a comparable language) that transform, validate, and route business data.
  • Build validation and exception‑handling logic that surfaces bad data in plain language before it reaches operations, rather than after.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation, data dictionaries, and runbooks so critical processes are not dependent on a single person's memory.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with operations, customer service, sales, finance, and warehouse leadership to understand how work actually gets done and align integrations with those realities.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications, and technical constraints into plain language for non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for customer and vendor IT teams during onboarding and issue resolution.
  • Recommend and prioritize integration and automation projects based on operational impact and communicate trade‑offs and timelines honestly.
  • Support system upgrades, platform migrations, and vendor evaluations from an integration perspective.
Required Qualifications:
  • 3–5 years of hands‑on experience with systems integration, EDI, API development or consumption, or middleware administration in a distribution, manufacturing, retail, or eCommerce environment.
  • Working knowledge of EDI standards (ANSI X12 and/or EDIFACT), common transaction sets, and the mechanics of trading partner onboarding.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating an ERP system with external platforms.
  • Proficiency with REST and/or SOAP APIs, JSON, and XML, including authentication patterns and debugging tools.
  • Strong SQL skills: the ability to query, join, and reconcile data across systems independently.
  • Comfort working with flat‑file formats (CSV, fixed‑width, delimited) and the messiness of real‑world data.
  • Proven troubleshooting discipline: the ability to work a problem to root cause rather than restart a process and hope.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and the credibility to work directly with both warehouse associates and customer IT teams.
  • High degree of ownership and self‑direction; this role sets much of its own priority order.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with iPaaS or middleware platforms (e.g., Boomi, MuleSoft, Celigo, Workato, SPS Commerce, Cleo, TrueCommerce, or similar).
  • Experience integrating eCommerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento) and marketplace or B2B customer portals.
  • Experience with 3PL, WMS, or shipping and parcel systems and their data feeds.
  • Familiarity with customer procurement portals and supplier networks (e.g., Ariba, Coupa) and the reporting they expose.
  • Exposure to apparel, promotional products, print, or custom manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with version control (Git), scheduled job orchestration, and basic observability or alerting practices.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems or documented process control (e.g., ISO 9001).

This position description is intended to be dynamic and is subject to change.Position requirements and essential functions may be altered from time to time based upon the needs of the organization and department.
