Job summary

Yoh, a Day & Zimmermann company, is seeking a Systems Engineer – Functional Safety Engineer in Michigan. The role focuses on ISO 26262-based safety analysis for vehicle features, including safety requirements and architectures, with collaboration across hardware and software teams.

The candidate will lead functional safety for multiple features, develop design verification plans with V&V, and work hands-on to validate safety concepts during prototype integration and testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Experience in production applications of vehicle domains (motion, body controls, infotainment).
• Experience writing safety requirements to meet ISO 26262 or similar standards.
• Strong record in system safety related to software design and development.
• Experience with systems engineering methods applied to complex software systems (FMEA, FTA, DFA, attack tree).
• Experience in safety-critical software development processes.
• Strong systems engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Functional Safety for a handful of features in the vehicle.
• Develop safety requirements, architecture, and behavior diagrams per ISO 26262.
• Collaborate with V&V teams to develop and execute the Design Verification Plan.
• Get hands-on with the product and validate designs in action.
• Support prototype integration & test milestones with triage & root-cause analysis.
• Coordinate with software, hardware, bring-up, and testing teams.
• Assist project management in allocating resources for safety processes.
