Job description

The System Engineering Manager is responsible for translating the organization’s vision, mission, and values into a meaningful context for the organization and our customers. The System Engineering Manager provides strategic direction, vision, and accountability for the Systems and Automation Engineering Team. This includes the execution of departmental strategies specific to policy, employee development and retention, pre-sale project development, post sales execution, profit retention, process improvement, and departmental growth. The position requires enthusiasm and an extensive understanding of systems engineering, project management, in addition to managerial, financial, negotiation, and supply chain concepts.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise for the Systems Engineering Team
  • Foster a collaborative team-oriented environment aligned with our core values
  • Drive departmental continuous improvement and “best practice” initiatives
  • Manage Engineering resources to ensure that the department is responsive to customer needs
  • Demonstrate technical expertise to internal and external customers
  • Ensure that processes and procedures are developed and followed to provide customers quality solutions on time and on budget
  • Assist in the concepting and design of automated solutions
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of current product and service offerings throughout the market
  • Provide leadership, training and support to ensure Consulting and System Integration’s goals and strategies are met or exceeded
  • Provide training, coaching and performance appraisals for direct reports
  • Develop and maintain supplier relationships that are aligned with the best interests of the company and its Customers
  • Performs related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office products, including Access and Excel, preferred.
  • Skilled in AutoCAD products, Knowledge of Inventor and Factory Design Suite preferred
  • Skilled in racking and automated solutions. Ie. Storage Systems, Conveyor, AS/RS, VLMs, AGVs, Mobile Rack, etc.
  • Extensive Knowledge of comprehensive warehouse management, distribution, and intralogistics.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Skilled in time-management and maintenance of project deadlines.
  • Skilled in both written and oral communications and customer relations.
  • Ability to analyze raw data for the use of developing customer solutions to provide for project application.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment, reasoning, and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information, draw conclusions and take decisive action.
  • Ability to evaluate, plan, prioritize work and complete work in a timely manner.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

This position requires a 4 year Business or Engineering Degree and a minimum of 7-10 years of management experience in the supply chain industry and/or related field. Individual will be a result-oriented, customer focused team player with strong communication and consistent attention to detail skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires the incumbent to perform his/her duties in many warehouse environments with variable lighting, space, and little if any environmental interferences. However, there may be some occasional exposure to severe elements outdoors as a result of travel in and out of vehicle or walking outside. Minimal exposure to unpleasant odors or excessive noise. Exposure to all temperature changes at different times of the day depending on freezer or ambient environments. This position does require frequent business travel to customer sites, which may include up to (20%) overnight travel.
