Job summary

VITAS Healthcare is seeking a systems engineer to assess, design, and upgrade IT systems, ensuring reliability and scalability across platforms. The role involves maintaining virtualized environments, scripting for automation, and collaboration with diverse IT teams.

The ideal candidate will have strong PowerShell and Linux scripting skills, experience with M365/Azure, networking, and a proactive mindset for security and backup planning.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in system engineering or network administration.
• Scripting required in Windows PowerShell and Linux shell.
• Ability to script in Python, JavaScript or similar languages.
• Experience with M365 administration (Azure).
• Strong networking knowledge (LAN/WAN/TCP/IP).
• Experience with Windows updates and patch management automation (Ivanti).
• Knowledge of system security and data backup/recovery.
• Familiarity with Linux and other OS platforms.
• Kubernetes experience is a strong plus.
• Able to be on-call during rotation.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assess systems, identify problems, and design and upgrade solutions.
• Maintain systems and drive future improvement brainstorming.
• Engage in project tasks including system design, resiliency, and scalability.
• Support VMware stack and IT initiatives for operations.
• Monitor performance events for VMs, containers, and hardware.
• Maintain VMs, container clusters, and container services.
• Review security events with the data-center security team as needed.
• Manage virtual and data storage, backups, and data replication.
• Create PowerShell and Linux scripts to assist other teams.
• Develop API-based automation to reduce repetitive tasks.
• Operate and administer Kubernetes clusters and Microsoft Cloud (M365/Azure).
• Maintain Windows update lists via automation tools (Ivanti).
• Review and escalate actionable log events to prevent downtime.
• Collaborate with IT teams, vendors, and staff during projects.
