Job summary

Canoo is seeking a Systems Engineer to lead validation, testing, and diagnostics for vehicle and system levels. You will create test specifications, report issues, and collaborate with software and hardware teams to drive issue resolution.

The role requires hands-on experience with UDS, CAN/CAN FD/LIN, and requirements writing, with a focus on reliability in EV systems.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Electrical, Computer, Software or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of UDS test strategies and diagnostic services.
  • Experience with vehicle networks (CAN/CAN FD/LIN) and data analysis.
  • Ability to write clear vehicle/system/component requirements.
  • Experience with EV systems and automotive electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed test plans for vehicle features to evaluate performance and reliability.
  • Create diagnostic strategies integrated with vehicle control logic.
  • Define requirements for UDS items such as service routines and DTCs.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure diagnostic coverage.
  • Coordinate delivery of diagnostic functionality and support testing at vehicle and system levels.
  • Assist in issue tracking and verification of fixes.

Systems Engineer, Validation, Testing, & Diagnostics

Job Purpose

The Systems Engineer, Validation, Testing, & Diagnostics will lead a methodical approach to validating and improving vehicle and system level requirements. They will create test specifications and report any issues found during testing. Additionally, they will work with both software and hardware teams to follow up and resolve issues found during testing.

Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed test plans for vehicle features to evaluate performance, reliability and functional implementation
  • Generate diagnostic strategies which integrate with vehicle control logic
  • Define requirements for UDS items (e.g. service routines, DTCs, etc)
  • Coordinate with cross functional teams to ensure diagnostic coverage of vehicle functionality
  • Coordinate with cross functional teams to ensure delivery of diagnostic functionality
  • Support testing at both the vehicle and system level to verify diagnostic functionality
Required Experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS), candidate must be able to design and specify UDS test strategies using multiple diagnostic services
  • Working knowledge of vehicle communication protocols, such as CAN, CANFD, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet
  • Experience writing requirements at the vehicle, system, and component level
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering, or equivalent
  • 3+ years experience with automotive electronic systems and/or control logic, candidate must understand function of all electric vehicle systems
Preferred Experience
  • Experience using a requirements management database (e.g. Polarion, DOORS, Jama, etc)
  • Working knowledge of automotive software architecture and implementation
  • Working knowledge of automotive data collection & analysis tools (e.g. Vector CANalyzer)
  • Understanding of binary and other related number systems (e.g. hexadecimal, ASCII, etc)
  • Experience working within an Agile development framework & using relevant tools (e.g. JIRA)
  • Knowledge of automotive diagnostic regulations
Travel Requirements
  • Up to 10% Travel
