Job summary

Eventual, a SF-based startup, is hiring a Software Engineer on the Systems team to design and implement core components of the Daft distributed data engine. You will contribute to architecture and code across critical areas of the system.

You’ll tackle planning, execution, and storage integration work with Parquet, Iceberg and Delta Lake, in a small, fast-paced group that values autonomy and practical problem solving. Join a hands-on, open-source–oriented environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience working with distributed data systems (query planning, optimizations, workload pipelining, scheduling, networking, fault tolerance etc)
• Strong fundamentals in systems programming and Linux
• Familiarity with cloud technologies (AWS S3 etc)
• Ability to work in small, autonomous teams with fast iterations

Responsibilities

• Planning/Query Optimizer: intelligently optimize users’ workloads with modern database techniques
• Execution Engine: improve memory stability through streaming computation and efficient data structures
• Distributed Scheduler: improve Daft’s resource utilization, task scheduling and fault tolerance
• Storage: integrate with Parquet, Iceberg and Delta Lake
