Job summary

Eventual is hiring a Software Engineer on the Systems team to build key capabilities for the Daft distributed data engine. You will contribute to core architectural design and implementation, solving challenging distributed data problems with autonomy and mentorship.

We value engineers who can scope and own difficult problems, in a small team that collaborates closely in the SF Mission district, four days per week in the office.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience with distributed data systems (query planning, scheduling, fault tolerance).
• Strong fundamentals in systems programming and Linux.
• Experience with cloud tech (AWS S3) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Planning/Query Optimizer: optimize workloads with modern database techniques.
• Execution Engine: improve memory stability via streaming computation and data structures.
• Distributed Scheduler: enhance resource utilization and fault tolerance.
• Storage: integrate with Parquet, Iceberg, Delta Lake.
• Be prepared to wear many hats: infrastructure, customer talk, product design.
