Job summary

Caribou Thunder in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Systems Engineer Level IV to lead the systems engineering behind Ground Fire Control capabilities for missile defense. You will shape requirements, guide technical teams, and deliver critical capabilities for national security.

The role emphasizes MBSE, architecture development, and collaboration with software, systems, and test engineers to ensure traceability and successful delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM; 8+ years related systems engineering experience.
  • 8+ years of systems engineering; or 6 years with Master’s; 4 with PhD.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle processes.
  • Experience applying SE methods to mission systems and technical solutions.
  • Experience supporting software development and requirements verification.
  • Experience with DOORS, Cameo, MBSE frameworks.
  • Experience with large-scale missile defense systems such as Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD).
  • Product Owner or technical team leadership experience (5+ people).
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to stakeholders.
  • In-person/closed-area development environment; travel up to 10%.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance at time of application.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Product Owner for the Systems Engineering team, helping define the roadmap, vision, and priorities for Ground Fire Control capabilities.
  • Develop and manage system requirements supporting ground-based weapons systems missions for the MDA.
  • Estimate, plan, and schedule technical work for engineering teams and present updates to leadership.
  • Contribute technically to architecture development, requirements analysis, and capability integration.
  • Collaborate with software, systems, and test teams to ensure requirements traceability.
  • Apply MBSE approaches to support architecture modeling and systems development.
  • Develop and maintain specifications, interface documents, architecture descriptions, and trade studies.
  • Support technical reviews and integration activities across disciplines.
  • Travel up to 10% to support program coordination and mission integration efforts.

Systems Engineer Level IV

Lead the systems engineering behind missile defense capabilities—shaping requirements, guiding technical teams, and helping deliver Ground Fire Control systems that protect the United States.


A Day in the Life - What you’ll do


  • Serve as Product Owner for the Systems Engineering team, helping define the roadmap, vision, and priorities for Ground Fire Control capabilities.

  • Develop and manage system requirements supporting ground-based weapons systems missions on behalf of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

  • Estimate, plan, and schedule technical work for engineering teams while tracking progress metrics and presenting updates to program leadership.

  • Contribute technically to the systems engineering team by supporting architecture development, requirements analysis, and capability integration.

  • Collaborate with software, systems, and test engineering teams to ensure requirements traceability and successful capability delivery.

  • Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches to support architecture modeling and systems development.

  • Develop and maintain systems engineering artifacts including specifications, interface documentation, architecture descriptions, and trade studies.

  • Support technical reviews, engineering discussions, and integration activities across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Travel up to 10% to support program coordination and mission integration efforts.


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university.

  • 8 years of related systems engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 6 years of related experience with a Master’s degree or 4 years of related experience with a PhD

  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle processes

  • Proven experience applying systems engineering methods to develop mission systems and technical solutions

  • Experience supporting software development and requirements verification activities

  • Experience with systems engineering tools including DOORS, Cameo, and MBSE frameworks

  • Experience supporting large-scale missile defense systems such as Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD)

  • Experience serving as a Product Owner or leading a technical team of 5 or more personnel

  • Experience estimating, planning, and scheduling software development work for engineering teams

  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines

  • Ability to think critically and translate concepts into technical documentation, presentations, and engineering discussions

  • Ability to support an in-person / closed-area development environment

  • Ability to travel up to 10% to support mission needs

  • Active in-scope DoD Secret security clearance required at time of application


Preferred Qualifications


  • Advanced degree in Mathematics or Physics

  • Experience supporting Battle Management or Fire Control systems

  • MBSE or INCOSE certification

  • Product Owner or Agile certifications

  • Experience developing systems engineering artifacts including specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), use cases, system architecture descriptions, and trade studies
