Job summary

Caribou Thunder is seeking a Systems Engineer 2 in Colorado Springs, CO to support missile defense and space surveillance missions. You will develop MBSE artifacts, derive requirements, and contribute to simulation environments used by national defense programs.

The role requires an active DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI access, and a willingness to travel up to 10%. You will work alongside senior engineers to advance threat modeling and engineering workflows in a

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field from an accredited institution.
  • 2 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree with 0–2 years of relevant experience.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI access.
  • Experience with military Modeling & Simulation (M&S) frameworks.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar languages.
  • Familiarity with missile defense concepts and MBSE principles.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Support mission-critical missile defense and space surveillance capabilities—developing systems engineering artifacts, requirements, and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) solutions that enable advanced threat modeling and simulation environments supporting the Missile Defense Agency and national defense missions.

A Day in the Life - What you’ll do
  • Support capability elicitation activities and derive system requirements to support new development efforts.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define, refine, and improve systems engineering processes and procedures.
  • Research missile defense concepts, space-based sensor phenomenology, orbital mechanics, and threat trajectory modeling.
  • Develop and maintain systems engineering artifacts supporting software development, integration, and testing activities.
  • Assist with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) model development and maintenance.
  • Support the creation and refinement of technical documentation, requirements specifications, interface definitions, and user guides.
  • Conduct data analysis and support automation efforts to improve engineering workflows and simulation capabilities.
  • Provide technical briefings and presentations to customers, stakeholders, and program leadership.
  • Support training, onboarding, and user orientation activities for modeling and simulation tools.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to ensure simulation tools accurately represent current and emerging threat environments.
  • Participate in system verification, validation, and technical review activities.
  • Contribute to engineering solutions that improve mission effectiveness across missile defense and space operations programs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited institution
  • 2 years of related experience, or Master’s degree with 0–2 years of relevant experience
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance with ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret/SCI access
  • Experience executing, supporting, or analyzing military Modeling & Simulation (M&S) frameworks
  • Experience with data analysis, scripting, or automation using Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar languages
  • Familiarity with missile defense concepts, space-based sensors, tracking systems, or orbital mechanics
  • Basic understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and methodologies
  • Ability to work independently while supporting collaborative engineering teams
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and technical problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 10% as required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience with Missile Defense Advanced Simulation (MDASim)
  • Experience supporting Missile Defense Space Tool (MDST) environments
  • Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) ground tests, flight tests, or wargaming exercises
  • Experience with MBSE tools such as CAMEO, MagicDraw, or similar modeling platforms
  • Understanding of Agile and Scrum software development methodologies
  • Knowledge of missile defense architectures, threat modeling, and sensor phenomenology
  • Experience developing systems engineering artifacts, requirements traceability, and technical documentation
