Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector is seeking a Systems Engineer – Level 5 to join our team in Redondo Beach, CA. The role requires an SCI clearance, involves working with Agile scrum teams, defining product vision, managing the backlog, and ensuring alignment with business objectives. It focuses on satellite ground systems and integrates software, systems engineering, and domain knowledge in space.
Responsibilities
- Drive development and execution of features for satellite ground systems with familiarity in reading CAMEO/MBSE models.
- Participate in working groups, research customer needs and interfaces, and translate them into digital artifacts to enable software implementation.
- Support and/or lead development of verification planning, test requirements, and other key products.
- Cover a range of Systems Engineering disciplines and products, including requirements & verification, interfaces, architecture, and design, integration, test, and sell‑off.
- Engage in sprint planning, stand‑ups, retrospectives, and reviews while maintaining alignment with product vision and mission goals.
- Provide subject‑matter expertise in Space‑Vehicle Command and Control System areas and collaborate with other teams and unit‑level engineers supporting subsystems.
- Conduct demos and briefings for customers and senior leadership.
- Ensure seamless integration of capabilities, epics, and features with ground satellite software systems solutions.
- Utilize the Atlassian tool suite, including Jira dashboards and Confluence knowledge bases.
- Support and/or lead preparation and execution of milestones and Agile product increments.
- Engage with multiple working groups and control boards.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 12+ years of engineering experience, orMaster's degree in a STEM discipline with 10+ years of engineering experience, orPhD in a STEM discipline with 8+ years of engineering experience.
- Active SCI clearance at the time of application.
- 2+ years of experience developing and evaluating behavioral and structural architecture diagrams using MBSE methodology and tooling.
- 2+ years of experience with No Magic Cameo or equivalent.
- Experience with space‑vehicle, command‑and‑control, mission management, mission data processing, or software subsystems.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills through written requirements, test, and evaluation criteria.
- 2+ years of experience with Systems Engineering processes and artifacts development in support of SW development (use cases, interface control documents, class diagrams, sequence diagrams, database design, schema development, and SW protocols such as REST, HTTP, & RESP).
- Experience working on Agile programs and methodology.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience with command‑and‑control, network management, flight dynamics, and/or orbit determination for space‑vehicle related software systems.
- Experience working with Space Vehicle Subsystems including thermal, power, attitude control, propulsion, and/or communications.
- Familiarity with cloud‑based architectures such as Kubernetes, containers, and orchestrators.
- Experience working mission‑focused threads.
- Experience with the software development lifecycle.
- Experience with JIRA/Confluence.
- Experience working with a geographically distributed team.
- Experience with automated test and integration frameworks including Playwright.

Salary
Primary Level Salary Range: $177,000 – $265,600 annually. This range serves as a general guideline; final offers depend on experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and long‑term incentives for certain leadership positions.
Relocation Assistance & Travel
Relocation assistance may be available. Travel of up to 10% of the time is required.
Clearance & Funding
Position is contingent upon capturing program award(s), obtaining and maintaining associated business and/or customer funding, and obtaining final clearances and program access within a reasonable period of time. Continued employment is subject to maintenance at the required clearance and program access level.
