Role Overview
Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems Sector is seeking a Systems Engineer – Level 4 to join our team in Redondo Beach, CA. The candidate will work with a scrum team of software and systems engineers responsible for defining the product vision, managing the product backlog and ensuring that all features align with business objectives. The role focuses on Agile development, MBSE, CAMEO, SysML, and integration of ground segment functions for satellite systems.
Responsibilities
- Drive development and execution of features for the satellite ground systems domain, including reading CAMEO/MBSE models.
- Participate in working groups, research customer needs and interfaces, and translate them into digital artifacts for software implementation.
- Support or lead development of verification planning, test requirements, and other key products.
- Engage in sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and reviews while maintaining alignment with product vision and mission goals.
- Provide subject‑matter expertise in Space-Vehicle Command and Control System areas and collaborate with other teams supporting subsystems.
- Conduct demos and briefings for customers and senior leadership.
- Ensure seamless integration of capabilities, epics, and features with ground satellite software systems.
- Utilize Atlassian tool suite, including Jira dashboards and Confluence knowledge bases.
- Lead preparation and execution of milestones and Agile product increments.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 8+ years of engineering experience; or Master’s degree with 6+ years; or PhD with 4+ years.
- Active SCI clearance at time of application.
- 2+ years of experience developing and evaluating behavioral and structural architecture diagrams using MBSE methodology and tooling.
- 2+ years of experience using No Magic Cameo or equivalent.
- Experience with space-vehicle, command-and-control, mission management, mission data processing, or software subsystems.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills through written requirements, test, and evaluation criteria.
- 2+ years with Systems Engineering processes and artifact development in support of software development, including use cases, interface control documents, class diagrams, sequence diagrams, database design, schema development, and protocols such as REST, HTTP, or RESP.
- Experience with Agile programs and methodology.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience with command-and-control, network management, flight dynamics, or orbit determination for space-vehicle related software systems.
- Experience working with Space Vehicle Subsystems such as thermal, power, attitude control, propulsion, or communications.
- Familiarity with cloud-based architectures such as Kubernetes, containers, and orchestrators.
- Experience with automated test and integration frameworks including Playwright.
- Experience with JIRA/Confluence and distributed teams.
- Experience with software development lifecycle and mission-focused threads.
