Job summary

Leonardo DRS is seeking a Systems Engineer to analyze, design, develop, and implement advanced systems for defense and intelligence applications. This role involves MBSE practices, working with Cameo/DOORS, and applying AI/automation techniques to support engineering decisions.

You will collaborate across hardware, software, and mechanical domains and contribute to cost- and schedule-driven design solutions.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field or equivalent experience and a minimum of 2 years of experience.
Competent technical expertise and application domain knowledge
Ability to work independently

Responsibilities

Involved with the analysis, design, development and implementation of new and/or existing systems/sub-systems.
Responsible for technical activity and completion of assigned task on time and budget
Design, develop, analyse, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems
May use computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments.
Report of progress and status regularly
Review customer specifications and requirements, and under direction, develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable
Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments
Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services
Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
Develop prototypes to retire key development risks
Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required
Participates in preparation of less-complex proposals
May provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings
Demonstrates familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods and tools (e.g., Cameo, DOORS), or a willingness to learn and apply these practices.
Develops skills in applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) or advanced automation techniques to support engineering analysis and decision-making.
Applies hands‑on experience in subsystem development, including hardware, software, mechanical, and test components, taking ownership of assigned technical solutions.
Capable of independently planning, executing, and leading smaller‑scale projects or technical work packages.
Shows initiative in exploring new methods, tools, or approaches under guidance from senior engineers.
Contributes to team knowledge sharing, including lessons learned, research, or prototypes in emerging technologies such as MBSE and AI.
