Job description

Application close date: Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed. At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As part of a hardworking team of specialists and engineers, you will help define Blue Origin's Human Landing System (HLS) — the lander that will carry astronauts to the surface of the Moon and return them safely to Orion. On the System Definition & Certification team you work across requirements, system safety, verification & validation, and certification — the instruments we use to prove the vehicle is safe to fly crew. You will own clearly scoped pieces of that work decomposing system requirements to lower levels, producing verification evidence, and dispositioning variances with the guidance of senior engineers. We favor lean, tool-driven workflows over moving data by hand, and we would rather build the tool that removes the busywork than staff it.

Special Mentions Relocation provided Travel expected up to 10% of the time to support cross-site and partner coordination Interviews will include a technical assessment Multiple positions available

Responsibilities
  • Own requirements decomposition, allocation, and traceability for a clearly scoped area of the system, with some oversight from senior engineers
  • Produce verification & validation products — verification requirements, methods, procedures, and closure evidence — for that scope
  • Contribute to system safety analyses (hazard analyses, FMECA/FTA) and disposition variances/deviations against team standards
  • Identify and communicate technical risks and the design changes needed to close them
  • Develop technical plans for your scope and support limited project planning — inputs to schedule, dependencies, and level of effort
  • Contribute to tool and process improvements, and help automate manual steps in the requirements and V&V workflow
  • Maintain the baseline in the team's tools (Jama, Windchill) and keep it current through engineering release cycles
  • Present your work to the broader team and, occasionally, to the program or customer
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. in aerospace, systems, or a related engineering field; an advanced degree may substitute for a portion of the experience requirement 2–5 years of experience in an engineering or technical role that required systems-level problem solving, with some exposure to requirements, verification, or system safety; a prior systems-engineering title is not required Demonstrated ability to own a clearly scoped requirements or verification effort with some oversight Working knowledge of requirements traceability, verification methods, and interface documents (ICDs/IRDs) Experience with requirements/modeling tools (Jama, DOORS) and comfort in tool-driven workflows Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in an engineering or technical discipline
  • Human spaceflight, crewed vehicle, launch vehicle, or other complex integrated-system experience
  • Experience from another safety-critical or regulated industry (e.g., medical devices, commercial aviation, nuclear, automotive) where requirements, verification, or safety analysis are core to the work
  • Familiarity with hazard analyses, variance/deviation processes, and verification-artifact management
  • Proficiency with Jama, DOORS, or Windchill
  • Exposure to certification processes or requirements verification against a customer baseline
  • Base Pay Range for:
    • CA applicants is $99,201.00 - $138,880.35
