As a Systems Engineer II within the Cranial & Spinal Technologies (CST) organization you will utilize your technical expertise in solving complex problems and in designing solutions involving powered surgical systems, electrosurgical systems, anatomical imaging, and computer-assisted and robotic-assisted surgery technology to improve patient outcomes and surgical efficiency.

  • You will work within a cross-functional team to design, develop, test, and document innovative system solutions utilizing hardware and software components.

  • You will assist in the definition and development of user needs, business needs, use cases, requirements, and system architecture.

  • You will assist in engineering analyses to optimize and select system-level concepts to ensure the final solution fulfills needs, requirements, use cases, environments, and the overall system vision.

  • You will assist in the planning and execution of user evaluations in lab-based surgical environments or other formative evaluation events to gain insightful feedback on system concepts.

  • You will support the team in identifying and mitigating technical risks, product hazards, and failure modes.

  • You will troubleshoot system component integration and support surgical procedure introduction of the design.

  • You will provide technical leadership along with technical and clinical procedure subject matter expertise to internal and cross-business development teams.

Must Have
  • A Bachelors’ degree in an Engineering or Science Discipline with 2 years of relevant experience OR a Master’s degree with 0 years of relevant experience.
Nice to Have
  • Experience in the medical device industry and/or surgical techniques.
  • Experience in Systems Engineering as related to stakeholder needs definition, creation of use case workflows, requirements definition and decomposition, functional architecture, and system design.
  • Experience in planning and conducting user evaluations of product concepts, analyzing data, documenting evaluation methods and results, and presenting design recommendations to product teams.
  • Experience with hardware design and product development.
  • Experience with mechanical design, mechanical, tolerance analysis, and computer-aided design (CAD).
  • Ability to provide creativity while solving complex problems without known solutions.
  • Ability to quickly prototype new concepts and ideas.
  • Ability to assess new technologies via comprehensive reviews of the state-of-the-art
  • Project management skills, including leading a project team as well as planning and estimation of tasks, milestones, resources, and budget.
  • Strong leadership skills and mentoring capabilities.
  • Ability to drive change – including design practices and processes – throughout the organization.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$88,800.00 - $133,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).
