Job summary

RTX in Tucson is hiring a Systems Engineer specialized in Guidance, Navigation, and Control to support missile programs. You will help evaluate, design, implement, and integrate embedded software algorithms and run CFD-based aerodynamics studies.

Collaboration spans across embedded software, firmware, and six degree‑of‑freedom simulations to meet performance goals. You will work with a team in an on-site setup, leveraging MATLAB, Python, C/C++, and Linux, with a requirement for active U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, physics, mathematics, or a related STEM field must be obtained by start date.

This is an Entry Level Role onsite in Tucson, AZ

What You Will Do:

The Processing, Guidance & Control Center is currently hiring for a Systems Engineer in Tucson, AZ to support execution of the portfolio of current and upcoming missile programs. As a Systems Engineer – Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineer, you will play a critical role in helping with the evaluation, design, implementation, and integration of embedded software algorithms. In the GNC department, we characterize system aerodynamics through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and wind tunnel testing, and design, integrate, and optimize effector guidance, tracking, navigation, and estimation algorithms to meet mission objectives. We evaluate these solutions in flight testing at the system‑level, or lower‑level subsystem testing and evaluation. You will collaborate with a team of engineers in an integrated product team that will be responsible for tactical embedded software, firmware, and six degree‑of‑freedom simulations to achieve overall system performance requirements.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, physics, mathematics, or a related STEM field. Degree must be obtained by start date.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, C/C++, and/or Object‑Oriented design and Linux operating systems
  • Experience with one or more of the following: GNC systems, modeling & simulation techniques, digital and/or modern control systems, dynamics, Kalman filter design, signal processing (electro‑optical, infrared, or active/passive RF), navigation systems, sensors (IMU/GPS), and algorithms, including Assured Position, Navigation, and Timing (APNT) systems, and aerodynamics and CFD.

Experience may be obtained through on‑the‑job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Specific majors: Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • Class projects, professional internships, or academic research demonstrating the ability to apply technical course work or computer skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a team setting, organize tasking, and work with colleagues towards a shared goal or vision.
  • Prior internship, co‑op, or work experience.

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 57,200 USD - 108,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
