Job summary

Cloudflare in Austin, TX is seeking a Systems Engineer for the Spectrum team to own a high‑scale L4 proxy and evolve it as the next generation of Cloudflare’s non‑HTTP traffic platform. You’ll work on the Spectrum edge dataplane, TLS termination, and integration with Unimog and Magic Transit, in a production‑first environment.

You’ll collaborate with Packet Processing and Traffic Management, design scalable APIs, improve observability, and help drive roadmap decisions that keep vast internet

Qualifications

• Experience building large-scale, distributed systems.
• Strong Go experience; Rust familiarity is a plus.
• Solid understanding of L3/L4 networking and protocols.
• Experience with Linux networking primitives (sockets, netns, eBPF).
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and backend systems.
• Comfort operating in production—on-call and incident response.

Responsibilities

• Own Spectrum edge dataplane: TCP/UDP, TLS termination, PROXY protocol, connection accounting, and eBPF integrations.
• Own Spectrum control plane: APIs, provisioning, and global config push to edge machines.
• Cross-dataplane integrations with Unimog, Magic Transit, Argo Smart Routing, etc.
• Drive operational excellence: analytics pipelines, observability, on-call, incident response, debt reduction.
• Help shape Spectrum roadmap as the L4 counterpart to the HTTP proxy stack.
