Systems Engineer / Field Experiment Scientist

Systems Engineer / Field Experiment Scientist

Position:

Full-time

Senior

Clearance:

TS-SCI

Highly Competitive

Project Overview

We are developing the next generation of enterprise undersea GEOINT capabilities to improve maritime domain awareness. Central to this effort is the development of a continuously updated enterprise undersea GEOINT model that integrates bathymetry, sidescan sonar imagery, oceanographic data, and related geospatial information into a unified operational capability.

The project focuses on transforming advanced research into operational enterprise capabilities through application development, systems integration, testing, and transition. Contractor personnel will support the design, development, integration, verification, validation, and deployment of the enterprise undersea GEOINT application while enabling interoperability with related maritime GEOINT capabilities. The effort includes development of scalable software services, enterprise data integration, automated testing, user engagement, and transition of capabilities into operational environments.

Working closely with Government engineers, researchers, and mission stakeholders, contractor personnel will support the full engineering lifecycle from requirements analysis and system design through software development, testing, deployment, and operational transition. Particular emphasis will be placed on developing secure, scalable, and maintainable enterprise applications that enable rapid integration of evolving undersea GEOINT capabilities.

Role Overview

The Lead Systems Engineer / Field Experiment Scientist will provide technical leadership for the engineering, integration, verification, and operational transition of the enterprise undersea GEOINT capability. The position serves as the primary systems engineering lead responsible for translating operational requirements into technical solutions while planning and supporting laboratory, field, and operational testing activities that validate system performance and readiness for enterprise deployment.

The engineer will coordinate across Government, industry, and research organizations to support system architecture, requirements development, technical integration, risk management, verification and validation activities, and transition planning. The position will also support field demonstrations, data collection efforts, experiment planning, and technical assessments to ensure enterprise capabilities meet mission objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Lead systems engineering activities across the full system lifecycle including requirements analysis, architecture development, system integration, verification, validation, and operational transition.
  • Develop and maintain system requirements, interface definitions, technical baselines, engineering documentation, and traceability artifacts.
  • Support technical planning for undersea GEOINT enterprise application development and integration.
  • Coordinate system integration activities across software developers, data providers, Government stakeholders, and external performers.
  • Develop verification and validation strategies, test plans, evaluation criteria, and acceptance methodologies.
  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in laboratory testing, operational demonstrations, and field experiments supporting undersea GEOINT capabilities.
  • Analyze experiment results, identify technical risks, evaluate system performance, and recommend engineering improvements.
  • Support integration of bathymetric, sonar, oceanographic, and other maritime GEOINT data into enterprise workflows.
  • Develop technical reports, engineering assessments, transition plans, and executive briefings.
  • Support Agile development activities including backlog refinement, sprint reviews, technical interchange meetings, and design reviews.
  • Coordinate transition of mature capabilities into operational environments and support knowledge transfer to receiving organizations.
  • Support customer engagement activities including technical demonstrations, user evaluations, and operational feedback sessions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Geospatial Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline and 9 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in a related field and 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience performing systems engineering throughout the system lifecycle, including requirements development, architecture, integration, verification, validation, and transition.
  • Experience supporting software-intensive systems or enterprise application development programs.
  • Experience developing system requirements, interface documentation, engineering analyses, and technical documentation.
  • Experience planning and executing technical evaluations, demonstrations, experiments, or operational testing activities.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary technical teams across Government, industry, and research organizations.
  • Experience conducting engineering trade studies, risk assessments, and technical performance evaluations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and technical communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting NGA or Intelligence Community GEOINT or maritime programs.
  • Experience with bathymetry, sonar, hydrography, oceanography, maritime domain awareness, or undersea sensing technologies.
