Job summary

Motorola Solutions in Elgin, IL is seeking a System Staging Engineer to join a team of developmental engineers, systems engineers and field personnel. You will design, test, and integrate two-way radio and information systems to meet customer requirements and schedules.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing, system optimization, and rapid problem resolution within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Engineer Technology.
  • 1+ years experience.
  • Knowledge of two-way radio systems and wireless data systems.
  • LAN/WAN, Windows, and TCP/IP networking knowledge.
  • Some travel possible.
  • VM and OVF high-level working and design knowledge.
  • Astro/MotoTRBO Motorola Communication systems experience is desired.
  • LTE, P25, Tetra knowledge is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Understand, design, and test complex communications and information systems to meet customer requirements and schedule deadlines.
  • Program and integrate equipment for a fully functional system.
  • Drive implementation, optimization, testing, and auditing of systems during the staging process.
  • Provide detailed system design drawings/documentation and hands-on support for systems testing and troubleshooting.
  • Serve as focal point for the resolution of product and system problems in complex communications and information systems.
  • Develop new methods to improve performance, ease of installation, diagnostics, quality, and cycle time of complex systems.

Department Overview

EEC SI - Elgin Experience Center Systems Integration.

We are a staging facility responsible for designing, programming, optimizing, testing, and demonstrating two-way radio systems to our public safety and commercial market customers. These demonstrations are performed for customers onsite as an important part of Factory Acceptance.

The Engineering Team works with field teams to develop the fine design details of a Radio Communications System and to support the fundamental objective of Total Customer Satisfaction.

Job Description

In this role you will, be an active member of a team of developmental engineers, systems engineers, system technicians, and field personnel to understand, design, and test complex communications and information systems to meet customer requirements and schedule deadlines.

  • Become familiar with the EEC SI workflow processes and procedures to program and integrate equipment for a fully functional system.
  • As a system staging engineer be an active participant.
  • Driving force behind the implementation, optimization, troubleshooting, testing, and auditing of systems throughout the staging process.
  • Provide detailed system design drawings/documentation, as well as hands‑on support for systems testing and troubleshooting
  • Serve as focal point & catalyst for the resolution of product and system problems in complex communications and information systems
  • Develop new methods to improve performance, ease of installation, diagnostics, quality, and cycle time of complex systems
Target Qualifications
  • IT Systems Engineering experience
  • Aggressive problem-solving skills and the ability to get things done in a multi-organizational environment.
  • Effective communications, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of two-way radio systems, wireless data systems
  • LAN/WAN, Windows, and TCP/IP networking skills are required
  • Some travel possible.
  • VM and OVF high-level working and design knowledge.
  • Astro/MotoTRBO Motorola Communication systems experience is desired
  • LTE, P25, Tetra knowledge is helpful
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Aggressive problem-solving skills and the ability to get things done.
  • Effective communications including public speaking and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, Knowledge of active directory and virtual machines. Work with a team of staging engineers and field personnel to test customer systems.
  • Provide "hands‑on" support for systems testing and troubleshooting.
  • Serve as a catalyst for the resolution of product and system problems and communicate issues quickly and accurately to the staging engineers.
  • Basic Unix/shell scripting skills a plus.

Target Base Salary Range: $58,500 - $85,200

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
