Job summary

Motorola Solutions is seeking a system integration engineer in Elgin, IL to design, test and optimize two-way radio systems. You will collaborate with engineers, technicians, and field personnel to meet customer requirements and schedules.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, 3+ years of experience, and travel of 10-25%. Advanced virtualization and Motorola system experience are preferred. Competitive benefits and relocation options may apply.

Responsibilities

• Be an active member of a team of developmental engineers, systems engineers, system technicians, and field personnel to understand, design, and test complex communications and information systems to meet customer requirements and schedule deadlines.
• Familiarize with EECSI workflow to program and integrate equipment for a fully functional system.
• Drive implementation, optimization, troubleshooting and auditing of systems throughout staging.
• Provide detailed system design drawings/documentation and hands-on support for testing and troubleshooting.
• Serve as focal point for resolution of product and system problems in complex systems.
• Develop new methods to improve performance, installation, diagnostics, quality and cycle time.

Department Overview

EECSI is the Elgin Experience Center Systems Integration. We're responsible for designing, programming, optimizing, testing, and the demonstration of two-way mobile radio systems. These system demonstrations are performed in front of our customers before they accept delivery of the system.

Job Description

In this role you will:

• Be an active member of a team of developmental engineers, systems engineers, system technicians, and field personnel to understand, design, and test complex communications and information systems to meet customer requirements and schedule deadlines.


• Become familiar with the EECSI workflow processes and procedures to program and integrate equipment for a fully functional system.


• As a system staging engineer be an active participant.


• Driving force behind the implementation, optimization, troubleshooting, testing, and auditing of systems throughout the staging process.


• Provide detailed system design drawings/documentation, as well as hands-on support for systems testing and troubleshooting.


• Serve as focal point & catalyst for the resolution of product and system problems in complex communications and information systems.


• Develop new methods to improve performance, ease of installation, diagnostics, quality, and cycle time of complex systems.

Specific Knowledge/Skills

• IT Systems Engineering experience


• Aggressive problem-solving skills and the ability to get things done in a multi-organizational environment.


• Effective communications, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.


• Knowledge of two-way radio systems, wireless data systems LAN/WAN, Windows, and TCP/IP networking skills are required.


• Some travel possible.


• VM and OVF high-level working and design knowledge.


• Astro/Mototrbo Motorola Communication systems experience is desired.


• LTE, P25, Tetra knowledge is helpful.

Preferred / Would Like to Have

• Scripting & Automation: Experience using Python, PowerShell, Bash or n8n to automate routine system diagnostics, staging tasks, and configuration workflows.


• Hypervisor Environments: Hands-on experience configuring, provisioning, and managing virtual infrastructure across enterprise hypervisors (e.g., VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, or KVM).


• Networking Certifications: CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent networking credentials validating foundational network design and troubleshooting skills.

Target Base Salary Range

$90,000 - $120,000
